Morning All.
Spent the day away from home and this morning walked into the HT room and heard a high frequency noise. At first I thought it was something upstairs, but that wasn't it. Then I thought it might be the Panamax, but not it either. I went into the HAT room to play with the broken subwoofer and knowing I had disconnected the LFE cable at the receiver I was surprised to note it was the plate amplifier making the noise.
I confirmed this when I yanked the power cable and the noise quickly died (faded immediately). Anyway, I set the signal level to minimum, cutover to 100Hz and plugged the LFE and power cables back in--and the HF noise returned within a second or two.
Today was the first time I noticed the HF noise as it had never been there before. This is a completely out of warranty product and I'm wondering if its worth tinkering with. And while testing amplifiers is one thing, what is the common way of discerning voicecoil damage outside of trying to operate the sub normally?
And no, I do not wish to just toss the PW2200 (v2) in the dumpster.
BTW, I am considering the replacement with something like the eD A5-350, Hsu VFT-15h, etc.

High frequency whine- isn't that the nature of all your posts?
I'm guessing this is a power supply issue, causing a chip or the amp to oscillate. Check for bulging caps, etc.
