Ok Cleaned up the contacts in the head shell and then the Phono inputs. A little better. I know the thing needs recapping the four large 1200uf 90vdc caps show between 700 and 950 uf. I will also clean all ground contacts. these old units don't have a ground plug on the AC cord. Would adding one and attaching it to ground on the chassis help at all or is it best to leave it alone?
But Dexter sounds great right now, those old Acoustic research speakers with the new Soft dome tweeters I added sound great.
I will need to do the woofer surounds soon, the originals are looking like they are about to go.
The hum might only be on the phono section, will test more when I have time.

You can use the pencil test on the surrounds. Place the speakers face up, and hold a pencil, point down, about 6" up between your fingers. Let the pencil tip drop via gravity only. If the tip bounces off, the foam is fine. If it does through, they are toast.

Hi Curt, the 2 large caps on each board are the 1200uf 90vdc ones that show low uf values . Are these the ones that could be causing the Hum?
You can see the after and before of the dirt on the boards here.
I plan to re cap both Boards. with the large caps there is nothing even close in Size. So I think
I will just put a larger value, maybe double the uf's and 100VDC since there are no 90 VDC in that size.
I still need to clean all grounds as the hum did go away when I touched the center pin of the Turn table
RCA to the chassis. And if I touch any part of the Turn table metal or the receiver metal the slight hum at high volume goes away completely. So it might be a ground issue more than the Caps.
But this is a really nice sounding unit and i forgot how nice the AR-2 sound after I redid the cross over and new tweeters.I did that over 15 years ago, that was my short lived experience with electronics till I got my First Marquee.
Temp set up.
I'm now on the hunt for a Tube Receiver, just missed out on a Fisher 500 C by 10 bucks, went for 385.
Got my eyes on a H.H Scott 399

No it was through osmosis. Just by being in the same room you suddenly feel like getting some old analog equipment.
