As the title says I just received a PO for a large outdoor speaker system to be utilized as an emergency evacuation system. I had bid this in May 09 and recieved a call yesterday that they need it installed by year end. It has been awhile since I have messed with driving the speakers with a 70va line. We are looking to provide 500 watts per channel for the larger speakers and need to have a seperate volume control for each speaker so that we can adjust it based on the distance it needs to cover. Do I just need to install a transformer at the amplifier for each speaker? I can order the speakers with the driver in parallel to make the impendance around 3-4 ohms. We will have speakers installed on 7 different buildings and utilizing a wireless IP based video transmission system to send the audio out of a PC. My main concern is the wire gauge that needs to be installed for the speakers. The cable runs will be anywhere from 75 ft. to 250 ft. That is why I am looking at going this route instead of straight 4 or 8 ohms. I have included the data sheets for the speakers that we are utilizing. 26 of the RSH462 and 6 of the RMG200a

Glad I'm not the only one that has customers that sit on a quote for a year, then want everything done RIGHT NOW.
Depending on the length of speaker run, you can either run 1 channel of 8 ohm power per speaker, or do 70 volt and have one amp power several speakers. You do realize that these speakers are HELLISHLY efficient, and I'm guessing that you won't actually come close to using 100 watts of power per horn.
If you go 70 volts, then yes, get an amp that runs 70 volt directly like a Crest CM 2204 (4 channel amp, 200 WPC), or Crown or Peavey, etc make them as well. Put a step down 70 volt txf at each speaker, tap the transformer at whatever wattage you want, and away you go. I'd use the transformer taps to regulate the volume of each horn, or if you go 8 ohm, you can use each amp channel's level control for each speaker.
The weak point perhaps is the wireless IP transmission. In my books, anything to do with life safety should be hard wired, but perhaps things have changed?
