|

Anyone using a wireless-N router that has a USB port for external hard drive and got it to working sufficiently that it can be used as a simple home-NAS solution? The idea would be to have a tablet device access it across their air interface, but not require any PC to be on.

I seem to remember that Dlinks implementation only works for a single device not like a NAS.
Have you seen the PogoPlug?
Just plug it in by the router and then hardwire it up. Haven't tried it but it would be the simplest wayk to start a NAS if you already have external storage.

Greg, I have not. Is there a way to limit this to the LAN? Not needing, nor wanting, WAN connectivity [I think]. Then again, maybe I don't think very well. Ok, I read the review and for streaming anything it looks like a solution not worth investing.

Wan, a few solutions come to mind. If you purchase a wireless router with usb port, you may be able to do ddwrt on it. Or check out the sheevaplug, which is a $99 linux wall wart sized computer, with usb port. As long as you're behind your firewall it shouldn't be accessible to the WAN, unless you do some port forwarding.

Good to know...I will take it out of my "potential products to recommend" category.

dale | Seems that this product is OEM and not meant for retail. I can find several products based on it, but they, too, seem for turnkey solutions and not retail. And even funnier is that I think the PogoPlug is based on it.
