|
|
Ok, well as the title states it wont lock onto signals,...always
If I use input A for anything such as PC, xbox, anything thats VGA it works fine.. however when I use my DVI input card for any "normal" components such as my Blu ray and HD DVD player, the XG has a hard time locking onto the signal, it took me 2 hours today to get it to lock on, I had to turn the Blu ray, and the PJ off at the same time, turn the blu ray on let it get to its special point where it sends the signal to the display, and then turn the PJ on at that exact time.
I tried the same method a few times before and it was the only time it would even attempt to lock onto a signal.
Now I dont know if the XG has ever had a card installed and its just the possible dust that I could not see thats causing this? Or if its something else thats having an issue.
If I have to deal with this the way it currently is Ill have to spend an hour or 2 getting ready before I have people over for a movie
Also this is the first time I have used this machine for blu rays and HD DVD, otherwise it was my 360 via Input A..
Any ideas ???

Bad system board most likely. I spent 3 hours working on 2 of the XG system boards yesterday with no luck, but I do have a working one if you want it. I think it's my last one at this point.
Cheers!

so a system board is causing that one problem? the only problem I have with the machine? :\ I suppose its possible, anything is with these babies...
I will mess with it some more tomorrow and see how it works, if its still acting up I may take that offer up, is the system board pricey? (With CRT it usually is )

Hey Jeremy, I think I have a solution for your problem. Back when I was using the Moome DVI card, at first I would often get a 'slot [B or C] not available' message. It turned out that you can avoid the problem by turning on things in the same order every time. The correct sequence is: 1. power on the pj, 2. Switch to the DVI slot, 3. Power on your DVI source device last.
If you get stuck with the 'slot not available' message, do the following:
1. Turn off the pj and disconnect power or flip the switch off using the switch near the power cord.
2. Leave it off for a good 10 seconds until you see the indicator lights/display on the pj dim and go out.
3. Pull the DVI card out to disconnect it. You only need to pull it out enough to disconnect it from the slot.
4. Re-insert DVI with no inputs connected.
5. Plug power back in/switch on and turn power on the pj, making sure the initial input in use is slot A or B. If slot C was your default input, change it to slot A for now.
6. Now switching to slot C should work and you will get a 'new input' message (or something similar depending on your version of NEC)
7. Finally, with the source shut off, connect the DVI cable and then power on your source. You should see A green light on the DVI.

If your talking about a Moome DVI card, mine never worked right...When it did it had really bad crushed blacks..I just gave up on it..Moome would have probably taken care of it, except for the crushed blacks because there was a fundamental issue with the design causing that problem...I just decided to stick with RGBHV from my HTPC..Way less headaches, no handshake problems either. I would not assume it's an issue with your projector if RGBHV is working ok.

Be very careful with that card...With mine the projector would do some really odd things. When the HD-DVD player would change resolutions I would get a horrible noise from the projector when it was trying to sync and handshake with the player. The noises it was making were down right scary, I finally pulled the card. Perhaps Jerry's advice will work, but I would NOT allow the projector to run very long while it's trying to sync. Also I wouldn't try to run any higher than 1080i with the card. XG's in general don't like standard 1080p/60 timings. You get some very bad streaking when attempting anything above 1080i. You can do 1080p but it requires an external scaler with custom timings or an HTPC.

Thinking about this a bit more, I remember that the order used for disconnection was important, too. IIRC, it was the reverse of the order when connecting: 1. Turn off the source, 2. Switch to input A (may not be necessary), 3. Power off the projector. I had this all worked out via macros on the remote but if someone just flipped off the projector manually with the source going, it would be locked out the next time. (At which point I would be flipping off the pj with my middle finger because I couldn't get the DVI to work ).
OR...
If this is all too much bother, the XG-FullHD card is much better at never getting locked out and has much better video performance as well. As a beta tester for that card, I tried everything I could to get it to lock out and it was nearly impossible. The one way I could get the FullHD card to lock out was by having a DVI card in the same input slot, then replacing it with the FullHD card.

Thats what I was thinking Jerry,
I will probably just deal with the DVI card the way it is for now until I can squeeze some cash out for a FullHD card. For now I will try your method. I will try it out probably tomorrow (didn't get much of a chance today since I spent the day setting up my friends 1272Q with the HDFury. Boy what a breeze, it actually took me less time today to get all of his HDMI equipment hooked up adjusted and the signal setup properly, than it did for me to get my blu ray player signal going to the XG.
Hopefully the sequence you have mentioned will work out for me until I can get the HDMI card. I appriciate everyones tips and suggestions! Hopefully something will work

Well I thought I'd let everyone know that I found a "way" to get it to lock onto the signal, only requires about 10 minutes (due to slow 1st gen HD DVD and blu ray ), but it works.
I think a moome HDMI is on the xmas list this year
Didn't want to leave anyone hanging

I did try the method above like Jerry stated, although it didnt completely work for me. My HD DVD Player will not sync up at all with the machine, however if I use my blu-ray player to sync it up and then switch to my HD DVD player, it works fine.
And as Jerry mentioned... I think it is also important to power down the equipment in the reverse sequence.
If you have the DVI card and have an XG, get the HDMI card, its expensive for a little card that has nearly nothing on it, but it is WELL worth it IMO if it eliminates the handshake BS that the RIAA and MPAA have forced electronic makers to do.
So thank you to all, at least I know its not the machine, and I do have a "way" to make it work
