Connect two 8200uF 16V electrolytics + end to + end. Use the - ends for the 4100uF capacitor leads.

Otherwise they have to stay in Sad and my capacitance tester doesnt go up past 1000uf Evil or Very Mad

You don't need to replace with exactly 3900/16, I'll assume it's in a supply circuit so anything close will be good, 4700/16 or 4700/25.

On sony those 3 Bipolars are on H-defl. circuit , those are for coupling H-defl. (ac) to H-shift (dc) together.
I dont think that replacing those are really important (or i havent least see any problems with those caps on 12xx series)

Well the problem with the 1272Q is that horizontally, the convergence will drift after a few hours, it will wander about an inch or so each way while its being used.

I figured since the unit is almost 20 years old, (and it looks like it was used), that it could use new capacitors. The guy that owns this thing is practically in love with it and doesn't want to get rid of it at all, so thats why I'm spending his money and my time on it Very Happy

I get the new HD8 Rev B Lenses today so hopefully when I put those on and fire it up it makes a small visual improvement on the focus, mainly around the edges.

Mr. Green

Just test to spray those caps wiht coldspray (when projector is warmed up) and see is convergence drifts.. iīll say that those caps are not culprit for that drift.

So I shouldn't worry about those 3 caps then? And the problem wasn't finding the values, its finding them in Bi-Polar..

I will get a can of air since it sprays out ultra cold and try that out while its on.

Do you know what would be causing the drift then? The 2 convergence boards in it dont really have any capacitors, the main one I think has 3 small ones and thats it.

I assumed the problem was on either the H-Def board or the V def board since those 2 are huge on the 12xx series and the rest of them (as far as I am aware) dont really control convergence other than the point boards.

I hope I didn't waste my time putting the new caps in on those 2 boards. I mean, at the very least, I tested each old capacitor and also tested the new ones I put in it to find values as close as possible to what was in there.

I did recapping thing back then when i had 1272 sony. Drifting was mostly coming from mechanical/magnet setup (if it was not done right) part of it was from heat variations (heat sinkīs and old paste between transistors/heatsinks) and recapping helped little also. Those Bipolars had no effect to hor. drift . Much can be done by cleaning all connectors with good contact cleaner and maybe adding some Stabilant 22.

1031 thank you for your advice! Where do I pick this Stabilant 22 up?

I'll be doing the re-sinking of the chips too since you mentioned it, it does make sense! Especially since its as old as it is, it could probably use it Smile

As for the bipolar part, based on many posts here, you won't have a problem finding that..Wink

Well I decided to put the 1272Q together today and see how it works with where I'm at with it.

I have to say, THANK YOU DRAGAN! WOW is all I can say! The picture is MUCH MUCH MUCH sharper with the new HD8 RevB lenses over the original HD8s! I was SHOCKED when I saw how sharp the picture was. It now looks on par with my 9PG (Plain)!

I let it warm up so I could converge some sort of an image to see how stable it was.. So far there is much less jitter overall, a lot more stable than it used to be.

Since I've gotten it this far I'm not going to stop! I have ordered the remaining capacitors, and will finish with the thermal compound redos and cleaners when I get them.

So,... VERY VERY VERY HAPPY Mr. Green Best $1 projector EVER!!!!

One thing at a time Cool . After I get it all back into good working order, the owner is going to buy an HD Fury for it, so then I will schmooze him into HD-144/145s after that Smile
