OK,
So I maximize the hor raster and im into unused phosphur.
I dont like the brighter edges.
I know that maxing the raster gives me a brighter image,
allows me to lower contrast and lengthens tube life.
BUT I dont like the brighter edges.
I can get the 96 inches with the raster where it was.
MY goal is to get to 1080i 16:9 54"x96" screen.
IF I stay in new phosphur I will always have the bright edges right?
So can I get where I want WITHOUT maximzing the raster.
IF so how much life am I losing on my tubes?
I appreciate all responses.

I forgot to mention the tubes are good less than 1500 hours.

Yes if you use the virgin phosphor it will always be, well, for a Veeeeery long time, be brighter then the worn area. If the size picture you want stays within the previous wear area just use that area.
Worrying about tube life of used tubes is long over. Use them until they turn to toast, then just buy another P/J with better tubes and start over. Re-tubing any 8" machine is crazy, at this point in time.
The 9"s are in question too. The machines are cheaper to buy then the cost of new tubes.
So use it and enjoy. With 1500 hours on them you've got about 7000 more to go

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
put my mind at ease and I dont feel so
guilty about not maximizing raster.

Just stay inside of the fosfor, you never get rid of the brighter parts.
The lightoutput increase is minimal and while the resolution increases on more usage, it also has a downside because you use the outher part of the lens wich is softer.
