I have the # 4 rated Marquee 9500 L/C.
It has made for one hell of a hobby that I didn't even know I wanted. Rolling Eyes

It also brought me here to a place that is so cool. Thumbs Up

I own a Barco Graphics 500 which I got years ago (1999 or 2000) and used for about 4 years until I moved to a smaller place. Put it in storage until a few days ago.

Was a gift from a friend who could not get it working. Seems none of the input boards sync - except the RGBHV lines - which was fine for me - I connected it to a computer with DVD player and TV Tuner card. Ran my game system and cable through the TV Tuner, DVDs through the computer's DVD player, and WinAmp visualizations from the computer when I was playing music (which was run back from the computer to my receiver and speaker system).

At the time, I couldnt find cheap screens (and didnt run into this site and the others that show you how to make cheap ones), so I made a 13' diagonal screen out of pressboard, which worked more than sufficiently well. To date, far happier with the results I got than some of the ones I have seen with newer LCD projectors.

The only other oddity I ran into (not having taken the time to learn how to program the mode blocks) was that I could only get 640x480 at 60Hz reliably. Oddly, the projector would sync to 800x600 or 1024x768 rather nicely and create a gorgeous picture for about a second and then the 3 images (R, G, B) would shift and it would report that the frequency didnt match and then blank the screen.

Finally fired it up again with a different machine connected to it, and it seems to be syncing to everything up to 1280x1024 (havent tried higher), but due to a bad VGA to RGBHV cable (not the one I was originally using), I get no red signal. Ordering a new cable tomorrow (probably from this site as the site owner seems to have lotsa experience with Barco projectors).

Tomorrow I think I will be buying a Graphics 800 and possibly retire the 500 (keeping it for spare parts for the 800 - most of the parts seem interchangeable).

And of course, inbetween all of this, I have been drooling over the Reality 909 model - both the one on eBay and the one here. Maybe one day...

NEC 6 PG + I am guessing from his subject...

mikeryan:
There is a really nice Barco Reality 909 on eBay which I am sure is being sold by a very reputable seller (Hi Curt!). From all I have read both here and elsewhere, is a gorgeous projector (in terms of image and capabilities).

Curt seems to have a bunch of other PJs for sale too...

I do have a NEC 6PG+ purchased from Curt, I now finally have a garage I am turning into my man / theater room! I painted the case a flat / glossy black combo and a gold heat vent grill ( subtle ). So far the machine looks good I am setting it up and have the pulleys in place. Just have to get it mounted and then the long task of the first time ever set-up begins!

The 909 is on my wish list, maybe Curt could use that as one of the contest prizes!

I own a Sony D50 but never wanted to share that info as the D50 is held in such low esteem here. I think it's great and as long as I never see someone's 8 or 9" EM machine on a high quality screen setup by a pro I will continue to think it's great! Or until I put 5000 hrs on the tubes and they no longer focus, but by that time I will be too old to notice.

I only have my NEC 9PG+ and I like it just fine. If I should happen upon a cheap 909 or a 9500lc then I might have to upgrade...

Wink I guess it's a sickness you don't know you have until you get a CRT... only the best will cure you though, so you must upgrade, upgrade, upgrade... then blend/ stack... MWA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

If I were you, I'd set it up on the floor first. Reaching around the system board to get to astig/centering magnets is tough. Flipping the image is really easy, so set up on floor first, flip image, mount and tweak. WAY easier.

Also, remember the cover messes with the magnetics/centering a bit (I found the blue was affected the most). Again, way easier to play with on a table vs. reacing up and around. Good luck! Thumbs Up
