Yes it is sort of a pain especially when ceiling mounted.

GAHHH!!

I have swapped quad and splitter, and when i switch on now, there is arcing inside the blue tube near the neckboard...
Second time i switch on there was an even bigger crackle sound, and i suddenly see a BIG arcing from the front of the tube.

I pulled the hv lead to the tube and removed neckboard, and it starts on green and red tube, so something has happened with the blue tube (which is only 3 years old)

Typically, beacuse the tubes in my spare are not good, especially blue which is the worst one.

Time to go digital now?

That arcing at the front by the yolk, is it external or internal. If internal you may just be seeing the reflection from the gun arcing.

Since you indicate you have spare parts, I would try another neck board on that blue just to be sure. Neckboards can cause tube arcing. Plus make sure all your gnds are attached.

Some dirt may have come loose and is causing the arc. You may want to remove the tube and bang gently but firmly on the neck to see if you can dislodge the dirt. If that doesn't work look for a cheap blue or go digital. Depends on what you want to spend.

I have found the problem.

The blue tube's frontface has cracked.
I just thought of lighting with a flashlight into the tube, and there were several large cracks in the tubeface.

What could have caused this? Overheating? Bad glass in the tube?

Wow, I don't know that such implosions have ever been adequately explained. There was a problem with VDC rebuilds in G70s some years back. But that doesn't explain this and such implosions are rare on Barcos.

Hmm ok, just typically my bad luck Sad

In sweden we don't have anyone selling or seviceing tube pj anymore, and the "sell" ads are less and less.
There is a 1209/2 for sale here. I'll see what he wants for it.
