I recently bought a NEC PG-6200G machine. Now I have a very simple question. It has Delta TAC4 lenses (not color filtered), as I know it should be HD144/145. I only found that these lenses are in the Seleco SVP400HT too which is not very impressive in it's specs. Does anyone have experience how these lenses perform? I have a deffective 9PG xtra with HD145s. These TAC4s are major step back? (or maybe forward?). I noticed that these lenses are shorter somewhat then HD145s. Screws are seems like new.

TAC4s are not bad, not that great, but they do a decent job. They are certainly alot lighter. They come with alot of 10 series Sony projectors, my 1001 QM has them.

My 9PG has Delta HD6 lenses on it, and when doing 576i there is no notable difference at all. Others may ( and probably will ) dissagree, but in my first hand experience the HD 145s on Aussie Al's 9PG we took off his 9PG XTRA were no improvement at all that we could see over the HD6s we took off, and there was no improvement between the Sony 1001 QM with TAC4s against my 9PG with HD6s when doing 576i.

Chances are if you try them all at a higher res you may see an improvement, but i can only comment on 576i comparisons, cause that is all ive done. I could throw my TAC4s on the 9PG and put on a bluray but i dont think its really worth the effort.

Thanks! Sooner or later there will be a comparison, now I just wanted some info about them (e.g. it is good enough to stay)

The TAC4 lenses might be ok for standard def stuff but you should see an improvement with either HD6 or HD144/5 when you go up in res. The TAC4 lenses are all plastic for the sake of economy. The glass elements in the HDs are for better performance.

Yeah mate that is true about the plastics, however if you open them up the first element is glass, and so is one of the middle 2 elememts.

Dead set i cant pick the difference on 576i ( thats all the Sony 1001 goes to ) and itll be a few weeks before i go ceiling mounted for my NEC, but ill try the TAC4s with 1080i when i move the projector, ive got it set up at the moment and im not keen to go through it again for a few weeks!!

When i do, ill be able to tell you what i can see between HD6s and TAC4s, so ill be able to tell you then how much better they are.

TAC4 were designed to be inexpensive and short throw than their HD counterpart and should not be used for HT use. They have very low resolution and CR contrast and are were mainly sold with sets for video only where brightness and budget were more important than quality. HD-6 should be a considerable upgrade or better yet HD-144/45s. You should be able to find something very cheap from a member or curt but I see you are in Hungary so good luck with shipping.

From who I bought he has a lot of spare crt stuff, and when I noticed him that the lens should be HD-something he said he has a lot of other lens so we can change it. I paid for the machine 180$ (with mint tubes and service RC) so I think he would be the cheapest.
But I bought this pj only because it is cheaper than a new def board from USA for my 9PG xtra. Wink

Virusc, TAC4s and HD6s have pretty much identical throw distance, if anything, the HD6s have a shorter throw.

With my 9PG sitting in the same place as my Sony 1001, the lenses on the NEC are closer to the wall by the difference in length of the two projectors ( the back end of both projectors are in the same place ) yet the screen is still larger, and its not cause im using more raster, the sony is pretty much against the edges of the tubes.
