To answer you question, because none of the BLU RAY players will downmix to regular DTS or DD from any of the high rez formats and most of the disks do not have 5.1 DD regular tracks. Usually they downmix to high bi rate DTS which my decoder will not decode correctly so I would have to settle for 2 channel PCM.

Ok, now I get it. So what BluRay has 5.1 analog out?

Bunches of them, Mac. The Oppos, Pioneer, Denon, Marantz, the more expensive Sonys, etc.

Everybody seems to universally love the Oppos... The 83 is $499 on Amazon, while the BDP-80 is only $289.

Cool. So now I'm wondering if we should try to inject before the HK internal crossovers or not. The crossovers are 5 high channels at 100hz and 1 low channel at 100hz. The crossovers are analog.

Is it just as easy to do either one? either before or after? If so I guess I need to select a 6 Channel blu ray player first to see if it has base management but in reality I think 100hz would be fine for my setup.

Interesting....I have never even heard of those players or brand before. They look pretty cool. How did you hear about them?

Are you waiting for your player or do you want to start experimenting now?

Hey, I was away this weekend that was not planned so I did not get a chance to open the unit. I will try again tonight.

I heard about the Dune from AVS but the Dune video processors were very popular at one time a few years ago for CRT projectors. The price on these are not that bad either. About $500 and it looks like it has more functionality than the Opp.
