My apologies for poking my nose in here, but any reason for wanting to get raped by Digikey on the pricing? I'm assuming you need that specific form factor, and that similar PCB-mount SMB jacks from other sources (some as cheap as $2 each), would not work for this application? Or here at Future?
(Nothing personal against Digikey, I order from there occasionally myself. But never if I can find another option.)
This seems like the kind of thing you could get super cheap by going "China-direct". Like Alibaba, or AliExpress, etc. I know I've gotten SMB/SMA extension cables in the past, with about any length of RG179 coax you like, with connectors on both ends, for a buck or two a piece. I didn't look, but there may even be an eBay seller with this type of merchandise.

those connectors for the vim and vnb are the only smb connectors in the world that fit and for the cable with plugs i do not want anything less then already is in the pj and that stuff from china with plugs for 2 dollars is.
poke away i would say .

Hi Tom,
Good to be back messing around on the forums again, been so long.
Next week will have a lot more time to post stuff.
Dennis, put me down for 3 projectors instead of the 2 I originally talked about.
Let's get this order going, so we can post up the results of the change,
will be an improvement either way when we replace the OEM cable to better quality/materials.
Chees
Steve

I went to a Radio Shack in the mall to look at the SMB connectors. the ones that use the 179 cable are really small for any fairly good quality cable. they do make a RG58 SMA/SMB/SMC type that looks like it be a better choice. The ones I saw had the screw on type connectors not the push.
I wander what type Scott used. also would it really make a difference if the connectors are 50ohms. I think Scott said it doesnt matter since on the VNB its terminated with 75 ohm resistor.
I just do not like the fact that the pin where the cable goes in is like only about 1 mm in outer diameter.
I was thinking this plug.

Its a little bigger but 50 ohm.

Dennis, I'm interested as well. I will dig into my healthcare files (we used these connections on MRI machines), but they are 50 ohm impedance connectors. I think we used another vendor than Digikey. Let me dig a bit.

I sent an E-mail to Scott about using the 50 ohmers. They just have a larger input side where you attach the wire. I looked at the smaller ones at radia shack and man is it tight.
I am looking up the parts this week end and putting together an order for those and for some parts Dennis needs and some for myself. I will look at all the vendors and then look at the cost of individual shipping from different places. If its cheaper to order all from one vendor even if some prices are higher i'll go that route.

ah, ok. I will find that vendor today and get it to you Nash. If I remember correctly they just do connectors, nothing else, so this place wouldn't be a one stop shop. I'll find and send the info shortly.

thanks Nash. We actually used the right angle PCB-mount SMBs in healthcare, so I may be able to help the forum and Scott all in one shot. Not sure how I missed his thread since I seem to be on here everyday these days!

Here is the site we used. They have a 75 ohm right-angle SMB as well.

doesnt seem like that firm has the socket connectors for the vim and vnb.
only connector that fits is the one from the link i`d keep all orders at one place if possible.
glad you joined paul.

conductor wire of the rg179 cable i used = 7 * 0.1mm, not a very big cable indeed but more then enough for the application.
so far we have me 12 +nash 12?(19-21?) + steve 18 + paul 6=48.
after these are sold out there is a good chance they wont come back.

rs35 isnt that some stinkin digital that looses all resolution with fast moving images .
i keep repeating myself it is not only black levels but motion resolution that is far more important, it is THE reason i got myself crt.
