Just wondering if I can do 1920x817p on a NEC 6PG XTRA? I know I probably won't be able to, but thought i'd ask.
What would be the equivalent resolution for 720p? I'd like to use as fast a refresh rate as possible.

if my math is right you should be able to use 1920x817i120
|

Thanks, I never thought of doing it interlaced. Do I need to keep both the Hz scanning freq and the overall bandwidth under the spec numbers for the PJ?

You can "do" 1080p 60 on a 6PG Xtra, it has the capacity, but NEC's just don't work well with standard 1080p signals, especially those from BD players. Since you're using something capable of custom resolutions, yes, your projector is capable of displaying 1920x817p.
Personally, I think its folly to worry about if it has the "bandwidth" to "handle" 1080p, as only the last generation Barco 909 had high enough bandwidth electronics throughout to "handle" 1080p "properly"...

Sorry, but I disagree, not only Barco cine9/909 can handle 1080p; I have a 2004 VDC/Marquee 9500 ultra with the new Vim with peaking circuit and it resolves perfectly 1920x1080p, through the whole screen. Can't measure MTF but I can see one line off/one line on patterns from 10 ft on 8 ft base screen.

A projector even MORE rare and MORE expensive than a run of the mill 909, excellent !
Perhaps you missed my point, it wasn't that Barco had some kind of exclusive right to crow about being able to "fully resolve" 1080p, it was that NOT being able to "fully resolve" 1080p, was no reason to NOT choose it as a resolution. If anyone's projector is capable of DISPLAYING 1080p, as many, many, many are, they should LOOK AT IT FIRST before they decide its not "good enough" for them...My personal choice is generally 1080i, but I've taken the time to look at 1080p and simply decided there was no reason to choose it over 1080i for me personally.

Agree on the point. My previous projector was a quite stock Marquee 8500 AC (my only mod was a set of HD 145 lenses) and I tried and choose to go 1080p, even if it was not perfectly resolved... that was my choice..

run a 2.35 720p or thereabouts...your PGXtra will thank you with a much better picture than the 1080p equivalent.
I'm running 1280 X600p right now on this XGLC...looks really nice, especially at 48Hz, my personal fav!

 To each his own, 48Hz makes me sick to my stomach it looks so bad...flickerflickerflickerflicker...
I tried 1080i 96Hz for a while and REALLY liked that, very solid...
TRY different resolutions, make your OWN mind up, the people here(including me, of course) are ONLY expressing an opinion about what their personal preferences are...
