Only the neckboards because the video output transistors disappeared. Oh, how the customers cried about having to stock different part number replacement parts.

Hey Scott

Electrohome used to have two guys in Kitchener whose primary job was to find replacements for discontinued devices.

Ok, I must be missing some inside joke. I didn't think CRTs were still being manufactured. How much are these things going for?

welcome to the wonderful world of government! Reality for the rest, over-priced for them. VDC must have one outstanding cost margin.

I have a set of the NEWER VDC neck boards. I've only played around with one at a time. Looks real good on everything I put into it. Really holds up well at higher bandwidth. Runs much cooler than anything I've tested before used in the high End CRT projectors previously manufactured.

The only other neck board that runs cooler was the ones in the 909. But I could not get the 909 neck boards while also being tested in a complete stock 909 up to the same bandwidth as the newer VDC neck boards.

I don't think they would make good margin on these now assuming they are getting 43k for them as it must be more expensive than ever to build and buy these parts in small quantity. I think the lensese alone are around 3k each new. Are they buying them to order from US lenses?

Most of the MRF 549s on the market now are counterfeits, made in China. They don't work. Or if they do, they certainly don't meet specs!

This is a primary reason why VDC decided to go with a new neck board design using different output devices.

I knew quite well that Marquees are still in production. The last of the 3-eyed monsters, and they'll still be in production for some time to come. They still OWN the top end of the flight simulation market, and most projectors are being made to replace other 9500s that have seen lots of use in those simulators.

When the simulator costs several million dollars, the projectors in them are considered to be consumables. And it's cheaper to get new
9500s than it is to re-engineer an installed simulator to accomodate a different projection system, particularly when there are so few
projector choices available that would come close to fitting the peformance requirements of the simulators. They've got to be night
vision capable, have serious geometry warping capability, and be able to maintain very high resolution within the displayed window,
regardless of geometry warping. And they have to work within the existing control framework, which pretty much says, "We need
more 9500LCs."

I've recently seen some of VDC's inventory of new CRTs. I think they could build several HUNDRED Marquees with what's in stock
right now, tube-wise. I'm also sure I didn't see all that there were in the place.

U.S. Precision Lens (Vicuity) has completely stopped manufacture of all CRT FP lenses. No more HD-10-anythings.

This was an abrupt decision, and they didn't even give VDC (or anybody) a chance to place a final order.

VDC had to find another optics house to make the lenses for them. They were successful. But reportedly the new
source charges about THREE TIMES MORE per lens.

I do not know the name of the new lens maker.
