Well since they came from the factory with about 100+ hours on them you basically have a new old stock projector. It is a good deal on a decent projector. Fan noise is real low on the Barco 120x series as compared to most other CRT projectors. I think you did well.

Thats just not right. It just cost me more for a set of boards from Curt than you paid for the entire projector. Well done.

Thanks for the comments guys. Now can anyone tell me how to remove the sheet metal covering the tubes, it's hinged at both ends? Thanks.

Download the manuals from this site. You can look for the 1209 manual also. It's almost the same

Would it be possible to turn this 1208/2 into 1208S/2 using 808S parts? Or at least get port 5 to accept positive sync? Thanks

You probably can, but good luck finding mint 808s tubes. WHy bother changing?
There are two sections to the lid, the tube cover flips up, and the part covering the PC boards does as well.

I currently have a BD 808S that has almost 12000 hrs on it. I replaced the green about 1000 hrs ago, the blue is showing some wear so whites look a little yellow, I also installed 120mhz neck cards on green and blue haven't found a third for the red yet. I just got the 1208/2 and it has fresh tubes at 429hrs but only accepts negative sync on port 5 and i've read that the S series video path is a huge upgrade. So just wondering what boards make the 1208 into an "S" model. Or should I just make a port 3 cable and leave as is? I think I just have the upgrade bug. Plus the 1208 is not as loud as the 808 and I have no hush box. Thanks for any help.

I don't believe you can change a 1208/2 into a 1208s/2 very easily. At a minimum you'd need a new controller, three of the high res 8" tubes (PT22/P16xxx--if you wanted the full 1208s/2 performance), a newer port 5 card and probably one or two other boards out of an S series Barco 120x. Negative sync is a hassle put you can force negative sync with computers or pickup an Extron box that will change the sync of what ever video you feed it. I used an Extron box for a number of years until I decided to just use an HTPC and nothing else.

Negative sync problem corrected. I just switched the force negative sync switch to the off position on the rgb input board and the machine auto detects sync polarity. I now have it running from a toshiba hddvd player set to 1080i to an extron cvc100 transcoder to the pj with 5 bnc connectors. One less component in the video chain.
