Not sure why, Tom? It's probably because it's one of the best written, directed, acted, and photographed war films ever. It doesn't hurt that the soundtrack is awesome, either.
This will definitely be a "re-buy" for me... You know, buying it again on Blu-ray even though you already owned it on LD and then DVD...
Let's hope the transfer is awesome.

It's one of my favourites too. I'm not that sure about the Redux vs original however. I had seen the original probably a dozen times before I watched Redux and found some of the extras in Redux take away from the movie - for example, afer Kilgore says ""I love the smell of napalm in the morning" in the original it just cuts... in Redux he goes on for a bit and they talk about surfing/etc and it just takes away from the seriousness/mystery of the Kilgore character and turns it into something comical/less serious it seems. Maybe it's just me.
Some extra scenes went on way too long it seems (ie: plantation scene) - I see why they were cut.
I think I need to watch both over again back to back in Blu-ray (of course).
I still remember (about 25 years ago) watching this original (non-Redux) movie in high school english class after we had just read Conrad's 1902 book 'Heart of Darkness' (upon which the movie is based). I still remember thinking "man, I have a cool teacher" for letting us watch this R rated movie when I was about 16 or 17! I had already seen the movie 2-3 times, knew it well, so it was interesting to watch the reactions from some of the other students in the class.
