i won't know what screen he really has til i get there saturday. he was aware that the screen was not to be touched and advised me to bring blankets as he has no cover for it. he even told me he wouldn't remove the screen legs but that if i neede to he should have any tools i would need. he also seems very concerned about moving it. strange considering he's giving it away! he did say the screen was "grey" and i'm assuming its curved. didn't ask. already reminds me i got that Sony with a 50" concave screen sitting downstairs that works fine......... no! I'm working on summer toys right now and just finished rebuilding a 1992 Sea Doo XP watercraft and it's a blast! Plenty of downtime in the winter for messing with the 16 (after saturday) pj's laying around here......
have a great summer!!!!!

It depends on the model designation, 1000 and 1000A is the model you are looking for. 72" is the standard (=smaller) screen size. Though you are generally stuck with a fixed screensize per projector, due to the corrector plates used in the Schmidt Optik configuration used.

Long ago I had a Kloss Novabeam Model One with a 6' diagonal curved screen. The screen was silver and very high gain since the projector itself had limited light output. I'm not sure it would be classified as a CRT but definitely not digital . Each 'tube' used a target plate (maybe 2"x2") where the image was formed but facing the back of the tube which had a curved mirror to direct the image out the front of the lens.
To remove the legs on the screen you remove bolts on side of the legs where they attach to a square metal bracket. You then rotate the leg to have it clear the L brackets that trapped the leg into place.

I believe Windex is okay, and big wads of kleenex or a very soft cloth. Work side to side, starting at the top, do not let the Windex run down.

Let me tell you about that screen. You can shoot a late model CRT projector onto it and watch it in a fully lighted room.
It will be blinding at night.
I'm not guessing. I've done it

stefuel,
do you agree with the windex use?
i'm afraid to touch this thing, no offense Tim, until i know for sure i won't damage it.
the guy told me vinegar and water would clean it up, but right now there's a radio ad running that talks about vinegar's ability to melt PEARLS!
please chime in anyone who knows .....

Pearls are very soft, organic, and easy to dissolve. I wouldn't worry about it. Either vinegar or Windex should work. Just be gentle. I understand those screens damage (scratch/tear/dent) very easily.

Sorry, can't help you with cleaning it. I never touched the screen. The closest I got to it was with a tape measure to square up the projector to the screen. This was quite a few years ago but I remember it as looking like it was painted with some sort of aluminumized paint. I'd try a warm dampened soft cloth in a corner to see how it reacts.

Did it turn out to be a Model One? If the screen has the name NOVABEAM embossed in the black plastic on the backside of the screen, then it would be the same as the one I have and I've successfully used windex on it. As Tim says, use ample amount of toweling and apply gentle pressure.

So which model projector is it? It's funny that this thread just came up and BAM, all of a sudden there's a model 100 for sale in my own town. I wonder if it's the woman who I sold the replacement projector to 6-7 years ago. It may not be. As I recall, the one I saw was broken. This one supposedly works but the "bulbs" are tired. They want $50.00 for it. If it comes with the screen, I'll grab it.

it is a model 1-A. No controls on cabinet, all on large wired remote. i like the combination convergence/focus board called the "confocus" board. haven't got time to check it out or clean it and the screen right now. heading to some water for some Sea Doo'n. will post more later.

I did find some info on the screen. However it just said that it was "washable". So I think a mild soap and water would be OK.

I came close to owning one. I worked at a stereo chain that sold them and I had a good month. It was my fantasy to spend my commision on a Novabeam. But my taxes took half the money away. I wouldn't want one now. The picture is of course much smaller. Can't do HD I am sure. And its curved screen was very directional. I literally had dreams about it a couple times.
