Hi,

I was about to buy a set of GT17 lenses but was warned that one of them has many tiny spots on the inside of the outer lens. They are quite visible in the photo here.

My questions:
- will this visibly affect image quality?
- is there a way to dismount the lens and clean it?

Thanks.

Pier

They shouldn't affect focus or sharpness. You can stick your finger in front of a lens and it won't affect the image much. The only concern I'd have is that they might scatter light some, reducing your ANSI contrast.

I would NOT try to disassemble the lens.

I'd say buy them if they give you a good deal, and (assuming they're all identical) put the spotty one on the blue.

looks like the coating came of, i do not expect this to be visible on the screen.
i was a a friend yesterday cause he recently bought a m9500ultra and the wire from the remote was in front of the red tube and nothing was visible on the screen.
place the damaged lens on the blue tube.
if you can get a set of these lenses for 100$ or less i wouldnt hesitate.

Kind of looks like either lens separation or fungus. Like already recommended use it on Blue.

Hello

That might clean up, the front lens section is held by three little bolts, remove the three little bolts and pull the front straight off. A good lens cleaning fluid and some microfiber cloths from an optical shop should handle it.

I can't seem to find the three bolts that Tim references. I can remove the lens from the body of the PJ but then only see the rubber knobs that are used for focus. Can anyone provide more guidance.

I have a similar problem as the original poster on my GT17s but the fungus is much worse. And it is definitelon the inside of the outermost lens (the one furthest away from the tube.

Thanks

Hello

One small bolt has a black knob on it to tighten the front barrel, the other two are plain.

I suspect you only need to remove the two focus pins. Could be wrong though. If they are square at the end use a pair of pliers but don't botch the threads !

You really don't want to disassemble the individual lens elements with a spanner wrench and without a proper optical bench and clean room ! Shocked

Thanks for the tips. This worked great. There was so much junk on the face of the lens that I exposed by removing the front cover that the small amount of dust I got in there is a small price to pay. I think it was definitely fungus or some other type of biologic. I do have to buy more microfiber cloth though, I really gunked it up. Anyone know if I can wash it?

I had to use a small adjustable wrench to unscrew the studs as they have a very small square head. I did not round them but could have if not careful.

I am getting very close to hanging this thing, just working on some trim work on the ceiling. The first part of the mount I am making went up last weekend.
