Probably a silly question?

If I put a Blu-Ray player into my HTPC which is equipped with an ATI 57XX card that has HDCP compliant HDMI and also a VGA port, can I watch a blu-ray movie on the projector using the VGA output or can I only use the HDMI output?

I'm thinking the VGA will be disabled but want to double check?

I've never had any issues using the VGA port. Some people say that you need to have Anydvd HD but I haven't found it necessary.

What WILL be disabled are displays using a digital interface (DVI or HDMI) that are not HDCP compliant.

Cool, thanks!
This would be VGA to 5BNC for my projector.

You may struggle to get anything but the standard 1080i res with an ATi 5xxx card. Powerstrip will not work with this card.

For this reason I just bought a 4850 on Ebay.

The other choice is an Nvidia card, which has custom resolutions in the drivers, but they are not as precise as Powerstrip.

Playback is not a huge issue. All stupid playback restrictions can be circumvented.

One plus with a 5xxx card, is you get Gamma for video playback (I think). You don't with earlier ATi cards, so I remux to a MKV file.

Gamma yes. Custom res no*.

* There is a way to create a custom EDID to get a custom res with a 5xxx card, but I have not heard of anyone creating an interlaced res. Let's face it, we are the only ones who want interlaced res's, the digital world is progressive.

The problem with the 48XX cards is they don't ouptut audio properly (or at all?) via HDMI output. Or so I read somewhere.
Same with the nVidia cards. Only the 5XXX cards can do this right now?

1080i is all I watch at the moment. My HTPC is connected to a 720P digital.
