I always found it fascinating that he was such "CRT fanboy" and posted so regularly at AVS, yet was never interested in coming around there. That always struck me as odd. There was even a sort of "Raster-ness" to his posts that I could never put my finger on... A sort of ignorance or naivety or something... I could never quite put my finger on it, though... Weird.

Sorry for your trouble, Alan. Hopefully, the guy comes back around and you get your boards and Moome box back.

Bummer.

I agree SC i would say he was quirky. he was also on MP's private forum and actually was a beta tester for Mikes latest VIM upgrades.
I can't get on there anymore to check though. maybe MP knows more about what he is up to?

Well he's still active on AVS. Logged on 11.40pm 2 days ago and his last login was this morning at approx 5.40am. All quiet of the posting front though.

I find it incredible that people like this have no conscience and have little or no thought for the pain and aggravation they deliberately cause others through their actions. Unbelievable IMO and a very sad commentary. Afterall the CRT community is VERY small and I feel a special comradery towards my fellow enthusiasts. I truly hope he gets his......

I haven't heard from him in months. And when I did shoot him an email or PM, he seem to always communicate on his terms. And when he did it was always bits and sketches....rarely ever answered a question.

I posted my last question to him on the test forum on January 28 and have yet to get a response.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts. I found his postings on AVS a bit off putting too, couldn't quite place my finger on it either but he just seemed odd or at least his posts did.

Thank you for the interest. No calls or emails over the weekend. He did sign on a couple times at the AVS forum over the weekend. Like Craig's thought, I will be fine and will be forgiven if he would just return the boards. He has a prepaid shipping label I have emailed him.

I am doing a road trip to LA soon. If you PM me his address, maybe I can swing by if he's within driving range...

Curt,
That shouldn't be to much out of the way as Glendale is right off the 5. Isn't Tinman somewhere in that area?

Alan,
This might work out for the best, as Curt can just pick them up and take them back and fix them.

I checked yesterday and see that Martin hasn't posted in a couple of weeks and only a couple of times before that. He used to be the most prolific poster over there. I wonder if your situation had anything to do with it.

Martin hasn't posted since I had PMed him at AVS a couple weeks ago asking why he cannot call me or email but has time to post on the forum. His posts did stop after that PM.

I did also did let him know a week before starting the threads via a PM and email to him which I know were read. I was hoping it would be an incentive for him to get in touch with me but no luck.

Again, I really hate to be putting this out on the forums but I am out of idea's.

Other than making the trip yourself, which given that he has a YA in his possession isn't such a bad idea, Curts offer seems like the best solution. Although if he's refusing to acknowledge your threads and personal contact, he may just decide to go AWOL.

Prehjan is still logging into AVS but not posting. He's obviously keeping a low profile and probably for good reason. Wonder if he nuked a board and isn't man enough to own up and face the music. Can't imagine he's doing all of this as a way to 'steal' your boards.

It is to bad Spirit doesn't have their cheap deals going on. You could have flown out there, rented a car and returned for less than $150.

I hate to say it, because I have done it more times than I can count. Taking a chance like this to save money always seems to be a gamble. Fortunately, Curt has given you an option that hopefully will work out for all parties involved including the forums and myself. Why do I include myself? Well, now hopefully I won't have to endure any more of his prolific posting. Wink

Had I been in Alan's shoes knowing what he knew about the guy I might have done the same. Martin is a long time AVS member and a prolific CRT poster on that site. Although he was never on my radar as a potential board level repairer I think with over 2K posts and his history, it seemed like a safe bet.

That said given operational YA's are as rare as hens teeth, unless I was sure the YA had a faulty chip there's no way I'd send it to anyone I didn't know personally. In the past I've sent broken YA's to John (in France), Curt and Craig. Whilst I was nervous I didn't have too much to lose. Boards were worked on and returned as promised. At this point these are the only 3 guys I would trust with anything that was hard to replace or of commercial value.

While I don't disagree and he did offer to do it for cost, but giving a guy credibility over number of posts is a gamble. Usually the person with the most posts and the most wordy posts is seen as the most knowledgeable, but that isn't always the case. MM is seen as the guru of DIY screens based on this, but I wouldn't necessarily agree.

And he's gone on vacation. So he can't defend himself.

Shame on you Curt.

Mac is a little too 'mobile' for comfort. Where would I go if I wanted to hunt down my YA board. Sad He does have one of my broken YA's which I hope will be returned one day fully operational. Can't have too many working YA boards, I say.....

Never dealt with Tse but have no reason to believe he wouldn't be as trustworthy as the other 3. He has less experience with the Sony's from what i can tell, but could be wrong......

LOL, and I dont blame you one bit. You don't know me from jack. Even though I am now planted again and only traveling on occasion.

Funny thing that amazes me is, since I've been doing these Pioneer Elite AVR repairs, people have been sending me their boards from all over the US and Canada. And they have only been linked to Curts site from a few sites I put some info on. I think "man, these people are sending me boards from their thousand dollar receivers and they dont even know who I am". I guess when your desperate you have a lot of faith. Its for this reason that I do the repair and have them return shipped within 48 hours so no one feels uncomfortable. And I'm at around 15 successful repairs and being contacted weekly.

I have other various receivers and bulb projectors sent to me along with all kinds of other stuff.

Think about it Haydon. If I stated I had a repair for the YA board and you didn't know me, you would still probably send me your board in desperation of getting it fixed (before you had your replacement).

I really have to much crap of my own, I dont need other peoples crap, LOL. Laughing
