Just received a new Green neck board from Curt, with the resistor to bridge pin 7 to ground...

Green focus is still not going well. For example, with the internal cross hatch pattern, the horizontal lines are fatter than those focused by Red and Blue. The vertical lines seem to be comparable to Red and Blue (maybe?), but horizontal just won't tighten up.

It seems that Green is being driven too hard, as the horizontal lines will focus better with contrast at 25. But forget about going up to 50-55. Any other ideas???

Fortunately, my wife has not left me yet, although she is spending more time away from me since the projector "issue(s)" surfaced Wink

Oh, my 9500LC is an Ultra. Any upgrades over the standard 9500LC that may help to remedy this focus issue?

I don't see the IN label (covered up? scratched off?). I cross-referenced my HV splitter with the picture on CZ Eddie's "Electrohome Marquee Teardown" article (On Curt's site) and everything seems to check out. All the HV wires seem to be going where needed.

Thx for the suggestion though!

I still say give the neck a few good taps with a short piece of a wooden broom stick while the PJ is running. Keep the cover off where you adjust the CPC rings.
its easier to tap the neck while those are off more of the tube neck is available. the crud will snap and burn off in a cool light show. i had a few thomas tubes
that focused weird till i did that. Even if packed well there is still vibrations that can shake free pieces of corrosion or other contaminates between the grids or pins in the guns during shipping.

I know, I'm just a AmPro guy but, is there a chance the focus yoke is loose on the tube neck and moved durring shipping?

Ok, back to my regularly scheduled movie (on one helleva slick 4600HD) Mr. Green

OK, I did the tapping, but no light show Wink However, I observed something interesting concerning focus...

Using the internal crosshatch pattern and the static focus adjustments, the center of Green is set at 2. The Red horizontal lines are more focused (not as fat) than Green at the center, with a setting of 52. BUT I now see that Green is sharper at bottom center than Red.

I cannot get the center Green to go any sharper than a setting of 2. Actually, a setting of zero is probably the same. It's like I don't have enough range, as I need to go lower. Anyhow, I'm starting to talk in circles.

this is rare but you might have a bad focus coil. you changed connecters and still the same. so its either the tube or the coil. its a lot of work but try swapping coils. I can send you one to try out.

Will you at least look and compare the position of the green focus yoke on it's neck to the red or blue?
I'm sure it would not be the first time someone forgot to tighten a clamp when they were done swapping a tube Wink
You say you don't have enough range of electronic focus. If the coil is out of position, you will not have enough range of electronic focus.

I'm going to read this thread from the beginning now. One question: Is this your first CRT projector? I just want to make sure we're not confusing electronic and optical focus.

I think the best clue to this problem is in the following. Wink

"Green focus is still not going well. For example, with the internal cross hatch pattern, the horizontal lines are fatter than those focused by Red and Blue. The vertical lines seem to be comparable to Red and Blue (maybe?), but horizontal just won't tighten up."

Your right chip, this is the best clue. The focus waveforms come from the CLM. That could be it since he says the H lines are the ones not in focus. But i dont thing a bah HDM would cause a focus issue but it could be?

We touched up astigmatism, zone focus, and optical focus. It seems as though a "U" or "V" shaped area in the upper half of the screen will not focus as well as the bottom half. Contrast is set to 55. Please see the screenshot attachment.

Have you looked into the lens with sunglasses on to confirm this issue is on the tube face, and not an issue with Scheimpflug, which is an optical issue?

BTW, what contrast setting was that pix taken at?

I agree with curt. Looks more like an optical issue.

Curt it was at Contrast of 55.

Contrast at 55. It's not an optical issue as we looked at the tube face and the image matched what we are seeing on screen.

It's got to be the tube then. Can't see it being anything else at this point.

One last thing to try and not sure if this was done yet.

Swap every connector from red to green, HV,HDm,VDM, Astig, FCM, and G2 plus Video connector. If its still there then its definitely the tube.

I don't defocus blue. Not one bit. In fact, when adjusting focus, I adjust for the point where the section under adjustment gets darker, which is the point of sharpest focus.

I'm pretty sensitive to blue halos. Meaning, I see them when they're there, and they bug me. So I go for sharpest blue focus and
accept the fact that this can result in slight variations in color temperature across a white screen.

Tried most of what you've suggested. It's looking like the tube Sad

??? I'm having trouble with the Green focus, not Blue. My previous screenshot shows the trouble focusing Green in the upper half of the screen...in a "U" shaped pattern. The bottom half is much more acceptable.

Also, Blue is currently NOT defocused. Thx for the post though Smile

But did you try it all together?
