Not sure if this is a joke for the April Fool's Day, or if it is just a joke on cowsumers that bought the original PS3, but prepare to lose the ability to Install Other OS. While Sony is making a claim of a security issue, I do not see how this can be the case anymore than it was the case during the product's initial deployment.

And this also reminds me of the recent issue with Panasonic deliberately making the plasma image WORSE after said amount of time and for no good reason other than it is by design. Yessir, seems that Panasonic and Sony as scheduling force, early obsolescence into their products these days. Nothing wrong with the technology, but if they cannot make you buy new on their time cycle then they have a noose for you and your electronics.

Seems that I'll be adding Sony to the Panasonic list of burned bridges.

The rise in black levels is due to the poor implementation of an otherwise required rise in reset voltage levels. When implemented properly, this shouldn't affect black levels; Panasonic simply screwed up in how they went about it. Read here for more info.

Yes, they screwed up and are telling those complaining to suffer. That is all any cowsumer needs to know.
