I’m new to this calibration thing so apologies if this is a bit simple! I have read the Greyscale and Colour Calibration article so am ready to have a go. However before I buy my new kit I thought I would have a go on my current CRT box using a normal DVD rather than blu-ray and an eye-one.
Software wise I have the HCFR software, their calibration patterns (downloaded from their site) and also the DVE combo format DVD with test patterns. What I have found is the DVE disk doesn’t seem to have the patterns from 0 to 100 IRE, I assume they are only on the HD side , there are some but seem to go in 20 IRE jumps, so no good for this. I therefore tried the HCFR patterns but these come up in the middle of the screen in roughly a 2 inch square, assuming this fully covers the Eye-One sensor area is this OK or does the small area affect the readout? Can anyone recommend any other sites where I could download a set of greyscale patterns to use as per the above article.
Probably the first of many questions.

For a CRT or plasma, small window patterns are a good thing. They generally have a problem driving larger windows or full-screen patterns to the same luminance values that they can with small windows (smaller=brighter). LCDs can use either windows or full-screen patterns.
