Hi guys' I've got the upgrade bug, time to upgrade my HTPC.
I need a Mini ATX mother board with a quad core processor.
I need 2 PCI slot's, 1 PCIe16x and a mini PCIe slot.
Who's processors are good today? I've been AMD for years now.
I've got a 610 watt PC power and cooling power supply in there already so I think I should be good there. I'm reusing the sound card, video capture card, video card and I'll pick up an ATSC card for it later.

Depends on what you want. If budget is your guide, then AMD with onboard graphics is likely the way, if you want performance, then Intel is the winner, pretty much hands down if you ask me right now...

The Clarksdale i5 is Real Fast! I'm not sure how to answer your question...Fast doing what? A guy on AVS was using my GUI and he said it was taking between 30-50 minutes on average to rip a BD with my GUI. My AMD 965 is about the same but draws 140 watts, the i5 is around 87 watts. The Intel chip is a little pricey about $200.
I'm putting together an HTPC for my Living Room to play my MKV's.
I went with this motherboard and CPU and case....This is an ATX form factor, I think Asus makes about the same thing in MATX. The case is a little big, about the size of an AVR, very quiet. The AMD 550 draws 80 watts. about the same as the i5.

OK, let me clarify this.
I currently have an AMD dual core 4200 with 2 gb PC3200 Ram in my Green Machine PVR.
https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=120.html
610watt power supply
ATi 3850 512 meg DDR3 video, Hauppauge PVR 500 dual tuner card and an Xmeridian 7.1 sound card.
I want to reuse the cards and upgrade the mother board ( mini ATX ) Ram and processor. I really don't care what it cost's or how much power it draws. I want a quad core that won't over heat in the mini ATX case.
And NO Wanman I'm not changing the case!

Those two statements conflict....More Power=More Heat.

Quit true so I guess I *should* care but what I'm saying is; what do you think will meet that criteria?

You are upgrading because the current setup is failing somehow or incapable based on the processing being limited?

No I'm upgrading because the current motherboard has an issue. It will hang on start up and the ethernet doesn't work.

That is such a lovely case you should keep it for sure. Are both the tuner card and sound card PCI?

Yes the tuner card and sound card are PCI. The new digital tuner card I'm looking at is the shorty PCI slot.
