Hi

I removed from office and now have a VPH-1000 dog old CRT PJ, the tubes are nice with no burn marks visible but I have a problem.

The problem is that there is a funny sort of fungus / mold built up on the front glass in with the Glycol coolant.

This is resulting in the green putting lots of small dots over hole image and blue to look out of focus where its built up quite thick towards the bottom half of the tube (top of projected picture)

The PJ is not going to be used for home cinema but simpey used until it dies for the kids PlayStation 2 and 3 as well as X-Box 360 via comp vid and s-video.

Has anyone had this and how do you go about cleaning it?

I was thinking of draining out the Glycol though a couple of filter papers to capture all the loose crap into a clean bottle, then cut the front glass off with knife blade, clean off / up all the black silicone and fungus off then silcone the galss back on and refill with the now filtered clean Glycol.

Does this sound like a good plan or should I be doing something ells as well ?

Don't want to spend much at all on the PJ as its basically not worth spending money on but also don't want to see it go to landfill while it still has life left in it or a simple repair can be done, to me the price of a tube of silicone is just about worth spending on it as I got it for nothing.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Works realy good. I´ve used Cillit Bang Power Cleaner Grime & Lime (the orange one) and distilled Water to clean the Glycol chamber.

Ok thanks

I will give it a go on the green as that just looks like a buildup.

The blue tube however has lots and lots of black bits floating around in it if I rotate it and the fungus, this to me looks like the paint off the alu frame meaning glass to come off.

What sort of paint can I use to sort the alu frame, cellulose car paint ? Black Hammerite ? what will the Glycol not eat into ? and will the whole frame come off the tube so it can be spraied to make sure I get to the areas I can't clean / spray when fitted ?

Thanks

Hey...thats "only" an VPH 1000. Clean it a few times with distilled Water. Or look for another Tube. SD187 or SD130 are very cheap in the last times.

Hi

Had a go with the cleaners but non really touched the stuff so out came the Stanley knife.

The front glass was covered with a real rough build up of crud and I had to use a brand new knife blade and scrape it off while running it under water, did the job good also got all of the sealant off.

CRT face had a white powdery buildup and I had to use a scourer pad to remove that.

Now both parts are clean, will stick them back together and refill.

Begining to think I should of tipped the darn thing but hopefully all will go well and it will look good again, the kids can play their DVD's and game units though it in spare room rather than use and burn my G70.

Have sort of answered my own questions now but thanks for the help guys.
