My Marquee 8500 needed to be operated by my Pronto IR remote when the remote was pointed toward the equipment rack, and not toward the screen. The Marquee IR remote would bounce IR all over the room and worked fine when pointed at the rack, but not the Pronto. I got the idea for this from menec (thanks) in a seperate thread, and wrote it all up so you can download it. By the way, I revised this document to clarify that you can also use a spare P3 cable that is normally used between the motherbaord and the wired factory remote. Cut in half, it provides two end fittings for use.

I used a spare P3 cable, cut in half, as the ends for two extension cables, as well as the end of an IR sensor. I did not notice until later that the colors for pins 1 through 3 are not the same on both ends. Make sure you ring out the physical ends and do not rely on just the colors. I have three connectors and all three use different colors. You always will want the tip of the 1/8 plug to be the power from pin 2 of the flat connector, the middle of the 1/8 plug to be the keypad or IR sensor from pin 1 of the flat connector, and for the base of the 1/8 plug to be ground from pin 3 of the flat connector, no matter what colors are used.

I made up four cables. I took a 50 foot 1/8 stereo cable, and cut it in half for two of the cables. I had a 25 foot 1/8 stereo cable, so I just cut one end off for the third cable. The forth cable I made from some scrap three conductor wire. While the color codes vary, each is wired physically the same, pin-to-pin.
The scrap wire cable works fine. One of the other three works fine. The other two either work partially and then hang up, or do not work at all. There are no shorts or opens, and all three ring out identically. All are the same length.
In checking one of the cables that works is made from 1/2 of the 50 foot cable I cut in two. The other end does not work at all. I checked these against three different remotes, using both A and B protocols on each. I made sure the wired/wireless jumper was properly placed and the battteries removed.
I double checked all wiring and solder joints. I checked the dimensions of the 1/8 jacks. All are the same. I have no idea why some work and some do not.
Any ideas about this?
