Three guesses each, the first two don't count.

Got this pix from a customer that has some issues with his Marquee.

'There seems to be an awful lot of silicone on the leads and coils? And it's a p-19 lug 9"? Isn't the lead in the wrong place leading more credence to the Barco tube too?

The clear silicone RTV isn't spec. Does it even HAVE a correct anode cap?

And, yeah, the lack of copper grounding tape and straps will have some interesting (and potentially dangerous) consequences. I'd expect
the picture to go dim as the CRT charge builds up, then a SNAP when it finally arcs over to ground, then a bright picture, which fades
again as it recharges, and depending on the arc-over location, maybe some board damage.

This is a very unsafe installation. But it can be corrected.

I'm not sure about the orientation of the CRT and the HV lead socket. It's been too long since I've actually looked into my blue tube's
shroud to be sure.

BTW, pull that little Barco label off the CRT' s label and it says Panasonic under it. The tube itself is just a regular production LUG.

And am I mistaken, or are those OLD style deflection yokes? Newer ones are slightly different, in the way the pins are set up.

As a routine precaution, I always cover all the deflection yoke pins with enough silicone to ensure that you don't get zapped if you do
accidentally touch them. I've been burned before by the hot pin. It's just like being poked with a hot soldering iron. Instant burn,
felt as heat. Not an electric jolt.

I jusr remembered on AVS many years back a guy put the conv. coil on AFTER the focus yoke. So at least this gent. is one step ahead of the game, or half-step. Laughing

Ding ding! I posted due to the ground straps, but then yes, noticed that the convergence yoke is backwards!

Lack of ground straps will cause lots of arcing, I'm surprised the set still worked.

My customer bought it this way (not from me), now he wants to get it up to snuff. Nice thing is, the G and B tubes are LUGS. Smile

Barco LUG's are just LUG's and you can put them in a 9500 just fine. Just drill out pin 6 on the VNB and connect the G2 wire to pin 6 when you install. I usually also add putty over pins 1 and 2 so it is obvious for whomever works on the set next.

I wasn't going to say anything about the convergence yoke because I wasn't SURE about it, but it did look reversed to me.

I'll bet the green LUG is very sharp...or will be, if the magnetics are set up correctly.

I think HogPilot coined a new verb.
