Hello again guys.
Been tinkering my behind off, with the marq.
Just gotten it to the ceiling where it should be.
But then , and i regret this, i got into adjusting the C and S horizontal linearity.
Center lin. was quite obvoius one had to crank all the way down to about 10-15.
But then comes the Side linearity. And i just dont get it. Is it suposed to NOT move about the Center vert. line (in the crosshatch that is) ? The center axis for me always becoms the litle dot to the right of the center. And that is regarldess of how i set green convergence and move about the focus coil. I have moved around the entire set, the convergenge for green, and focus coil all the evning and only gotten more confused.
Marked the center of my screen with some tape, and NEVER got the horiz. S-lin to centering on the center of the crosshatch, only that darned dot just right to it.
Gathered some info on the geometrics being tricky for marquee's but this one really messes with my acheiving a good setup.
And i need a drink now....
edit: And oh, i forgot to post the question: Is the horiz S-lin suposed to not move the center ? The Vertical on does keep it reasonably intact in the midle...

Do an initialization and start over. Things can get screwy and corrupt the memories. After you do the initialization go through the help menu mechanical set up again to get the grids centered. then look to see how close it is on the screen. if its off you might need to re adjust your ceiling mount. Hopefully the method you used to mount the PJ allows room for adjustment side to side.
Now square up the top/bottom and sides using an external grid pattern, for the centering use a X pattern to match up to your mark on the screen.
use the linearity controls more to size each square the same size. First , if the squares are all full squares edge to edge count them. then measure your screen and divide the number of squares into the size of the screen, for example i had a 140 inch screen width and had 20 squares across, each square should be 7 inches wide. Start with a grid square near the center use the C linearity and get as close to 7 inches while trying to keep the center from moving, some grid patterns also mark the center, if not do your best to keep it close, or check between patterns. now measure a square at the edge, do the same there with s linearity . then go back and check the first square again, then the edge square and move your way in to the center doing both sides of the center for the whole process . if after your done any side moves off the screen then look to see if the grid is centered on the tube face, if it is you need to move the PJ, if its not then use green convergence to center the green.
Do the same for vertical.
this is how i did it but others might have different methods.

Thankyou for taking your time writing that Athanasios. And thats about the way i was doing it yesterday. Got all the squares same size roughly..
BUT the problem consist in my center line been trown way of center when i adjust the horizontal sides. so the raster center gets all undone. The axis of movement gets as said, the dot to the left, even if i move either convergence electronicaly or via moving around the focus coil.

Hello
Set your linearities then recenter with the focus magnets. Flare rings will also move the rasters some.

Hi tim !
Yes thats became the solution for now. I just hitced my self up on geting that "axis" to be in center to, but no luck.
Nothing wrong with the picture itself in any way, so it will do.

does initialization change the shape and size of the dot or beam ? If not what all effects the size and shape of the beam, besides the cpc magnets ?

It will if you have the Astig zones adjusted. initialization usually clears all menu settings except for the G2, Drive levels , maybe the Astig to. if you have a laptop computer with a serial port or a USB to serial converter download the marquee loader program to save settings. One more thing that is great about it and this is a little secrete nugget it has much finer adjustment range than the remote control. Convergence, geometry, G2, Drive etc all have more precise adjustment control. Only thing is its a pain to use, but once you figure it out its a big help for perfectly setting up a Marquee.
I think I got it from VDC's web site.

Oh big thanks for that one Athanasios ! That progy is just what i wanted, a way to backup while i'm toying around here and there, learning.
but most important for now is that i need to change some caps as Mike P. sez in the guide. The set is showing some straining overall..
Even might let Draganm do me the hounour of blessing the internals. When i can afford it

uhm... problem guys.
The controlprogram doesnt like older firmwares at all. I'm on v4.1 something.
No geometry control or service menus. Only convergens, brite and contrast wants to play.
But i could use the loader to save & upload the entire memory.
I saw in some other thread about 8.xx being the latest but it was hardly necesary to upgrade ?
