hello guys.
i have a problem with my marquee 9500lc ultra...
after 2 hours of watching movie suddenly a noticed a strange sound for one or two seconds, like a small detonation, and then the picture was gone.
i turned the machine off for a while and then on again! no error lamps are lighting and the typical startup crackle from the hvps was missing.
i opend the hvps but counldn't see and smell anything... the other boards, including the lvps, are looking good too.
what you think about this problem? think i need a new hvps?
i hope someone can help me!

There's a couple of guys here that still like Marquees. I've up-graded to a AmPro 4600HD so I can't help you

well seanoise,
have you confirmed HVPS failure?
Dave

not really...
i only guess the hvps failure. i don't know what else to try...
in a few days i get another hvps, hopefully the marquee will continue working!
i only wanted to know if the "pros" in this forum confirm my diagnostics...?!?!?!
if i have the new hvps i will report again.

A HV leak which takes out the HDM like Nash mentioned is a loud SNAP like those little paper crackers little kids throw on 4th of July.
What you described sounds like a tube imploded. This can be caused by Glycol chamber swelling/overpressure or running raster/image off side of tube bell. Look into tubes with flash-light, you'll know quickly if one imploded on you.

Been there, done that and while the tube was still sealed the scent of a imploded mint blue tube drifting into the kitchen while I was cooking put tears to my eyes. Sounds very similar though from what you describe. Any electronic smell right after? I guess we'll find out soon enough if that's the case or not.

at first, thanks for your help guys.
i'm a little bit smarter now. the tubes all look ok, nothing is imploded.
the hv-wires also look ok.
but on the hdm board i found a burned resistor, it is the resistor R96. i have no idea for what it is good... maybe a protective resistor???
so, i'm looking forward for more help.

it is a 08P board.
so you think my hvps is still intact?
as next step i wanted to change the burned resistor, do you think it would be senseless?

and i don't know the size of the resistor, because it is burned...
somebody knows it, or can give me the colour-code?

If you get stuck, send me the HVPS and HDM for testing.
Cheers!

hello.
so i changed the damaged resistor, but nothing changed... the projector is still not running.
the problem is, i'm from germany, so shipping the board to canada would take several weeks...
maybe you could give me another hint Curt, Nashou66 or Draganm ?!?!?!

If R96 on the HDM is open or bad, from there it's best to send that HDM to Curt for repair.
That's not a resistor that would just go bad and everything else is OK. If it opens, whatever caused it to open also took out R92 and R1001 - they are all in parellel.
That's not a DIY repair.

that's always a hard thing to explain to people who are trying to do repair. It's not a simple matter of of "oh look there's the bad part, just replace it and everything is fine". A blown resistors is 99% of the time the messenger, not the cause. Like Mike explained, when electronics fail it's like Dominoes , they fail in a chain and sometimes with many branches.

a repaired the hdm-board by myself.
ich changed the mosfet and the ic in the same circuit (it is the 85V circuit), and now the machine is working again!
thanks for all your help and the circuit-diagrams!!!
