|
|
Hey guys,
Does anyone actually have a list or handbook of the commands required to control a Sony projector via RS232? Specifically a 1272.
How is this setup in terms of a computer?

Working with serial kind of sucks if you haven't done it before. What, specifically are you trying to accomplish, exactly?
EDIT - Oh, and IIRC, the 12xx's are like the G70 and have RS-422 serial interfaces, not RS-232. So, I don't think you can wire a serial cable directly between a computer and the projector. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you'd need an RS-422-to-RS-232 interface.

Well i was thinking that there could be ways of making screen adjustments using that serial connection. Say, to stretch the screen for 2:35 material, or that kind of stuff.

Mmmm... No, not really. Well, I guess you could... kind of. Problem is, the 12xx memories don't really work like that. It isn't just a recall thing, anyway like some newer projectors (even my G70 doesn't work that way, though). So, you'd have to actually make the adjustments on the fly... A serial sequence would then look something like:
RGB SIZE
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN
DOWN (repeat 10 or 20 more times)
ENTER
To put it back, you'd have to run a series of UP commands.
So, are you running HTPC? If you set up a couple of different resolutions, the 12xx will drop into different memory slots and recall geometry and convergence settings for each res, as long as they fit into the different Hscan slots. So, for instance, you could set up different geometry settings for resolutions like 640x480p (4:3), 1920x1080i (16:9), and possibly a ~2.40 res like 1280x528 or maybe 1440x600 or something.
Or, you could just run 720p all the time and let the player software do all the AR control.

Better off setting up different memory location for each aspect ratio. I've never been able to squash or stretch globally without having to tweak convergence.

Cheers the ideas guys. That sequence of coding is very awkward ! Didn't know it worked like that.
The memory location is a great idea.
Do you think that if i can't use my VP20 scaler with a different "User Preset" for H/V/Zoom etc, would be a better option? (As the preset is selectable by the remote).
