Can I use the microsoft XBOX VGA cable with a BNC breakout cable to hook up to my NEC XG 75? If so what kind of resolution should I expect? On my old CRT monitor I could get 1080p with the VGA cable. Hdfury wraps the picture around the lens at 1080p so I figure Ill just stick to VGA.

yes i'm doing these on my 9500LC, only thing is xbox can only put out progressive over VGA so you have to use 720p or 1080p

Well, I hooked my sons xbox 360 up to NEC and am having the same rap around problem with VGA as I did with the Hdfury.
It only happens with 1080p but now the 720p is staticky. I wonder if my CRT is just messed up.

Somebody with an NEC can chime in, but I believe 1080p on an XG is a no-go without something like an HD Fury 3 with left-shift or a Box1040 with Image Alignment Correction. I think the porches are just too short on the 1080p signal for the NEC to display without wrapping.
Even on my G70, there is some ripple on the left side of the raster running 1080p.
Do a search for NEC and 1080p or XG and 1080p - you should be able to find some posts on the subject.

SC is right.
You really need a Video Processor, or a PC. The signal is the same via VGA or a HDFury, I really don't understand why people think there will be a difference. Only the ones with shift *may* help, but they don't add more porch pixels.
Everyone tries direct connection with these little toy boxes, and it always ends in tears. Ok, sometimes it works, but there are always compromises - compromises I wouldn't live with.
There's almost certainly nothing wrong with the XG.

What works pretty well on the XG is 1600*900 from the XBOX.
As long as you do not have a very small throw-ratio, it should fill the screen - and look noticeably better than 720p.
Daniel.

What is the absolute CHEAPEST processor that can be placed between "consumer" gear outputting 1080p and an XGLC to make the signal usable on the XG ??
I just now tried 1080p from a computer onto my XGLC and was shocked at how terribly it interprets the resolution, absolutely nothing you can do to make it work, using the controls available via remote...Is there no shift pot or anything that can make un-manipulated, consumer box 1080p work ??

XG works fine with 1080p fom a PC (VGA) if you get the porches right.
Using Powerstrip or the Nvidia custom res thingy, add more porch pixels. I use this 1080i 96hz timing, which is the same as 1080p 48hz, it's from Kai:
PowerStrip timing parameters:
1920x1080=1920,112,128,115,1080,46,7,30,126874,542
Generic timing details for 1920x1080:
HFP=112 HSW=128 HBP=115 kHz=56 VFP=46 VSW=7 VBP=30 Hz=48
VESA detailed timing:
PClk=126.87 H.Active=1920 H.Blank=355 H.Offset=96 HSW=128 V.Active=1080 V.Blank=83 V.Offset=46 VSW=7
Linux modeline parameters:
"1920x1080" 126.874 1920 2032 2160 2275 1080 1126 1133 1163 interlace -hsync -vsync
And most people seem to like a Lumagen or DVDO VP-50 Plus processor if they don't run a PC.

Mark: I'm so glad you posted those timings in an earlier thread, I've been trying out an Intel mini-itx motherboard with onboard HD4500X graphics, and your timings allowed me to use the EXCELLENT tool the guys over at AVSForum developed to do custom resolutions on Intel graphics. It was, bar none, the easiest acquisition of custom resolution EVER, thanks to your published timings...
I was asking about the cheapest "consumer" alternative though for a buddy who doesn't want to have anything to do with HTPC's, but would prefer to use 1080p from his BD player... Lumagen's and DVDO's seem awfully expensive JUST to get 1080p working...

I dunno, I've never used anything but a PC.
But did you know, that with the Nvidia timings your have to use "half" the vertical res if you're doing interlaced - so 540 instead of 1080....boy that cost me some hours...

Hey! Thanks for that Mark. That was driving me nuts! I'll have to try that.

DOUBLE THANK YOU !!!!
That explains EVERYTHING !!!
I thought Nvidia custom res thing was f'cked because it never let me do any of the fancy interlaced resolutions I wanted to, I gave up on it so long ago, its a lot of the reason why I tried the Intel board....
Superb, now I can get an Nvidia mini-itx board and go back to complete compatibility...
Thanks again Mark...
I REALLY wish you'd write a "for dummies" FAQ about all this stuff...there was some other tiny bit of info concerning Powerstrip and getting it to work with ATI cards doing interlaced that I stumbled upon buried in another thread somewhere that was another "lightbulb" moment for me and explained why Powerstrip had LITERALLY NEVER worked for me...and now I can't even remember what your insight was...

If you are still having trouble with the Nvidia card I can get the exact working timings I'm using for 1080i 72hz on the TV HTPC - but the kids are using it right now.
Was it interlaced res's on ATi cards? You have to put the card in "interlaced mode" using the CCC or windows display settings, then tweak the timing.
And, believe me, I have as much trouble as the next person getting beyond 1600x1200 sometimes....stupid "default monitor" limitation..in Windows7 I overrode the EDID...still wouldn't work, changed monitor drivers...nup....then it just worked.
It's actually getting harder and harder, Microsoft is tightening the screws.

My only experience with Win7 and custom resolutions has only been with the Intel graphics chip, and so far, its been easy as pie, just use that little program from AVSForum for Intel graphics and write direct to the registry.
Maybe running whatever program you're trying to use for custom resolutions specifically in Administrator mode will make it easier ?
