|
|
I have a Sony D50 with about 4500 hours. It was professionally installed in 1996. About 3 years ago it would suddenly cut off and display 33 in the error code window. At the time because of time constraints, work, kids etc, I left it for dead. Recently I decided to reclaim and upgrade the theater room. A few weeks ago I fired up the D50 after not operating it for over 2 years and it started without problems. The image was acceptable though not perfect. I was considering replacing the projector with a smaller higher quality digital projector when I came across your website. I decided to revive the Sony D50. I had forgotten about the error code issue until after a week of operation it displayed 33 again and promptly shut off. After scouring the internet I found the Sony D50 Error code page on your website. Turns out, it is high voltage error. I have scoured the internet for an explanation and solution. Unfortunately, I ordered a Moone DVI card last week. I am hoping it is something I can tackle myself. Any thoughts as to the origin of the issue and can it be repaired. I have not been able to find any to service the beast in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area.
Thanks in advance

Well, an intermittent is going to be a royal PITA to try and narrow down, but most likely it's on the PA board that is under/over the green lens, and it comes out the front . (under the green lens if floor mounted, over if it's ceiling mounted.
I can test it for $50 incl return shipping, or repair it for $250 flat rate incl return shipping.
First off, try and reseat it. It may simply be bad connections if the thing came to life after 2 years of sitting there.
<edit> Also check your tube condition. At 4500 hours, you might have some wear, in which case it might be better to repalce the set. You're a great candidate for the D50 that I just listed for $850 in the buy/sell section since all you need is the basic projector. Just a thought.
