600 lines looks pretty sharp on those D50's.
I ran mine at 800x600 for a while then I did a wide screen 1422x800 with the HTPC. It was ok but finaly I ran 480p and 1080i with it. I did have it running 1024x768 for a while too but my tubes were high hours and a little to soft at 768 lines.

Just done a quick 1024 x 768 and a quick 1280 x 800 and while not soft ( the tubes are good ) I defo agree that 8 x 6 is the sweet spot. Was just curious to see what it can do since I keep the pc desktop on my imac and just use the pj for tv or films.
May as well get all my questions out in the same thread if that's ok.... I see there is a fan mod for the G70. Does it work the same for the D50 ( same specs, wiring and fan locations ? ). Since I literally have the projector right underneath my sofa ( the lenses are behind the front edge of the seat bit ) the noise isn't a prob, just wondering...

Also, don't forget that there is a master size control, but also a size control for the incoming RGB signal at the top of the remote. Set the SIZE control so the test pattern fits the screen, then set the RGB size so the image is as large as possible without cutting the edges off.
I don't comment about fan mods. Unless they are tried and tested, I don't recommend them.
What I do recommend.. turning up the audio to drown out the fans.

Tks curt - re the fans.... my arse seems to be doing a good job of deadening the fan noise so I'll stick with manual dampening I guess
