Just home from tonites shindigs reading what you're all posting. Went out looking for screens today as I'm itching to get the projector setup correctly. Going to check out some WilsonArt next week then hope the HTPC is shipped from NCIX and I'll also need either a VGA extension cable or just a longer BNC one. Nothing Geeky yet...

Have to swap out monitors on this computer today. This one is having issues with the HV supply and flickering. Not too geeky but necessary.

Investigating the cause for a speckle problem in the display of a Barco SLM R6 3-chip DLP projector. It looks like stuck pixels, but only
when there's an active signal present. Which means it's NOT stuck pixels Interesting. Some of the pixels flicker rapidly but at a clearly visible rate, as well. And a few go on and off erratically.
I have two of these PJs to go through and test, and eventually, sell. Perhaps one will give me the cure for the other.

Could be a poor connection from 1 of the DMD panels to the main board. The DMD is usually a solderless BGA style to its board and usually a film style ribbon cable to the main board. Also could be a connection in other locations.

A lot of the commercial 3 chip DLP projectors has special setups in the menu to adjust that problem out.
They're not plug and play like the consumer units are. You really have to tweak the image on them, and there should be something in the menu that would allow you to do that.
I've never seen that Barco unit, but if it's using TI's DLP's, then it going to need some tweaking to get around those pixel problems.

Does it have an OSD? If so are the sparkles in the menu also?

Visiting in-laws in Phoenix, so no projects. Geekiest thing I'll do today is take my kids to Avatar 3D Imax.

Laying out all the pages and hooking up IR codes for the iPhone- or iPod touch-based remote I'm beta-testing, so I can start making custom buttons for it all.

Yes, it has OSD and the sparkles (lit pixels) are visible in them, and in the internal test patterns. I'll investigate the service menu
adjustments and see what's in there. And, some adjustments require a PC connection, I think. If I can get the software from
Barco, that may be the way to go. Hopefully it's just a free download.
I'm also having trouble getting the unit to display a picture from an upscaling DVD player with a DVI output. I'm going straight from
DVI to DVI (the PJ has two DVI inputs and yes, they're selected active) and I can see the Samsung startup screen but when the disk
goes to play, the screen goes blank. Background only.
I'm about ready to grab my extra computer from work and bring it into the garage and just feed it signals via 5 wire from VGA.
These projectors came from a theme park attraction. I'm still not quite sure why they were surplussed out as they're in generally great shape and the lamps are (a) hideously expensive, and (b) are very low hours. The only real problem is that there are two projectors
but only one lens between the two of them. And those lenses are expensive. The one lens I got with them is very short throw, just
screen height x 0.85. I'd prefer a lens that was a little longer, around a throw formula of 1.2 to 1.5. But I can't be picky.
If anyone has any extra Barco TLD lenses hanging around, part number starting with R98406xx, R98407xx, or R98409xx, I'd sure
like to see about making a deal if it's one of the right lenses.
