I wouldn't bother, but I don't understand what the fuss is about. I remember when Sarah mentioned it and you would have thought she(he) burned down VDC.

By the way, there are secret codes for the Ampro's as well. They will allow resettining the HV fail count as well as resetting the hour meters.

I think it's good to keep them secret amongst a select few. I needed it earlier in the year after I aquired my Marquee and the memory and hour meter were hosed. It wasn' tuntil I reset them that it now functions correctly. There is nothing there that is needed for the average owner, which is why they are hidden in the first place. If they are needed for something like what happened to my set, then the select few can help that person out. It also keeps the integrity of the hour counter so those not so honest can't reset the counter and claim a never-used machine.

I see a consistent reason being the hour meter. This is really not a good argument. Any projector can have incorrect hour counts if the CPU board was changed. Its like buying a car. You cant just go by the odometer. You base your buying decision on the condition of the entire item. The hour counter also doesn't tell you if the set was abused during that period either.
Just like a car, a high hour unit can many times out preform or out last a low one. Tube condition should be more of a buying factor then anything else. The hour counter, just like an odometer cannot be trusted.

Agreed, but where the hour data is stored on a Marquee is so buried in the chassis, no one is going to strip it down to bare chassis for the sake of replacing it unless something is wrong with that chip (how likely is that chip really going to fail?). It also depends on the year of the set. Yes, a 10 year old set going by the hour counter alone is not a good idea, but finding a 2000's era set where they are still stock from VDC/Christie it can play part as it's validity is probably pretty real. Keep in mind the Marquee is still in production. An NEC or Ampro is a different story.
In addition to the memory reset, there are as others noted, screens in there (like being able to change the SN of a set) and others that just should not be accessible by the average user.

I really wasn't referring to the Marquee. They need so much work out of the box that the hours are really not relevant.

Also, these codes are no more dangerous and even less so then giving out service menu codes for Plasma's and LCD flat panels which actually have more current value then almost all projectors. Even a S/N has pretty much no relevance other then maybe for a tech bulletin.
