Might not be something youre willing to do, but this is how ive had ALL my projectors installed.
Ive never used a screen, always gone straight onto the wall, and painted it with the paint that gave the best looking picture. Took 3 goes with one of the digitals i have.
That way, its not a big deal if the projector isnt perfectly central to the screen, and you can make the size of the rasters fit just nicely without having to worry about it fitting the screen at the distance its allready mounted.
If you can roll the screen up, do that and shoot it on the wall, youll have to focus and converge it for that obviously.
This is something i would think is a good idea if the rasters have not been set up to use the most you can use.

I'd guess you have perfect blue and red tubes with a possibly a hint of wear on green (you probably won't see it through the lens and green c-element). The picture should be stunning once you get it hooked up. |
The picture (component rca to bnc feed from my Series 3 Tivo) is pretty darn good. I'm still working on getting the picture adjusted right though. I've gone through the adjustment process (via the menu walkthrough) a few times and each pass it gets a bit better (trial and error so far as I learn). Waiting for my HDfury3 to get some real HD out of it.
Cheers

At first, when I was looking at the house, the only thing on my mind was how in the world was I going to get rid of that big honking thing and replace it with a small new projector. What I came to learn from this forum is it's a great projector and a heck of a lot better than whatever I would have replaced it with given the budget. Thus far we love it.

Painting the wall is ok....if you then attach a felt border to the wall.
And masking curtains, top and bottom.
A Runco 1101 deserves no less.

Well in the end Mark ill go that far, but for the start of it all i will merely be painting the whole wall white, if i get hot spots ill paint the wall again. Ill do the side walls in a dark colour that wont reflect.
My current good projector is only a 9PG, and will be in a 6mx3.5m room unless i get something better, in which case the 9PG goes in the bedroom ( which is 4mx3.5m )

It doesn't really matter how good the projector is - I first did masking on a borrowed business flashlight 10 years ago.
Without a proper black border framing the image completely (like they do at the movies, for good reason), your image is all washed out and horrid.
Just painting the wall white and projecting on it is about the worst thing you can do.

She'll be right mate, once ive got it all set up and know exactly where everything is going and staying, ill sort it out then.
Having felt on the walls should help with the sound as well wouldnt it? Ill be using inwall speakers, with Dynamat Xtreme around the back of them where i box them in, Harman/Kardon 7.1 AVR ( just got latest firmware for it ), run everything into the H/K which upscales to anything you want ( max of 1080p, ill be looking toward 1080i or 720p ) then from there using the HDMI out to a HD Fury 3, and on to the projector, using the second HDMI on the HD Fury for the computer direct. 5 lines of quad shielded RG6 from there to the projector.
Interested to hear any suggestions youve got on all that Mark, cause i rather value your experience in this field.
