Xmas is bringing out the Snake Oilers.
A friend, haven learned of my lightning situation, informed me of a promotion of a Panasonic TC-P42TPX plasma and Xbox 360 Elite deal at Best Buy for $699. On initial inspection it appeared to be a good deal. Then affter hunting for the model number and researching online, this plasma is the old snakey 1024x768 variety. Yet, it is advertised as being 720P HDTV.
So, I go looking around at the other products being offered by a variety of retailers in the 42" plasma "720P" arena and sure enough almost every single 'deal' is on this crapola display. I mean, who wants to buy a display where the lowest DTV resolution chops off 20% of the pixel resolution on the way to the panel?
Oh, and if you look hard enough at the true 720P plasma displays you find that they are all $150-250 more in the 42" size arena. Now, I do not mind the selling of XGA in a display, but these snake oilers went out of their way to hide the fact that the horizontal resolution was 20% below the lowest HD resolution.
I wonder how many cowsumers are being dinged on this one.
