Hi guys,

As some of you may know I own a CRT blend as well as a digital PJ (Panasonic AE2000). The Panny is not bad at all but there are movies I just will refuse to see in a digital projector... any movie with dark scenes is a no-go.

There's some movies that are a pleasure to watch in a CRT, here's my favorite list (in no particular order):

Dark City
Harry Potter ... (they all have very dark scenes)
Pitch Black
King Kong (not necessarily dark but great photography and some really really nice dark scenes)
Corpse Bride (some AMAZING scenes of characters just floating on the screen)
The Thing
The Fountain

...and...

Zoolander! ... joking! but I loved the movie.... Smile

Dont forget Aeon Flux!!!

And I know i'll get ridden for this one but Twilight also looks great on CRT for the way it was filmed.

I too love Zoolander!!!

But for the CRT try the BR of Blade Runner. The opening scene w/ the neon lights against the dark of night!!!

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I also cant wait to see Seabiscuit on BR. The dvd is really good looking and the colors are sharp.

You have to see that one with the full fade to black.

Oh, but wait,... that's all of them.

Seabiscuit on HD-DVD was/is amazing. So I'm sure it will be equally good on BR. I regularly use this movie to show off my setup. Good picture with lots of "pop" and great sound.

Ultra Violet has a lot of great vibrant colours agains't blacks. I prefer it to Aeon Flux.

The Incredibles looks 3D and I only have the DVD.

I liked the way Wall-E looked as well, though not as 3d as the incredibles.

Coraline 3D looked really nice too.

Kind of true on your AE2000, but not categorically true on all digitals. Quite a number of digitals render dark scenes better than any film projector (i.e. the way most directors expected their film to be presented) ever did and much better than you panny does.

So, I'm guessing the opposite is also true for you, that there is a list of movies you will neve watch on the CRTs because of the poor performance. These would include:
Ice Age
Ice Age 2
Ice Age 3
...

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

As an aside, I'm not so sure about corpse bride. There are parts I liked better on my CRT and parts I like better on my digital. That one is a toss up to me.

One scene that I've always called out as benefitting greatly in its "feel" by being presented on high on/off PJs is the beginning of Gladiator.

As for Speed Racer, I disagree, there is much of this movie that is great on a high ANSI CR PJ and look flat on a low ANSI CR PJ like a CRT. I think that one looks better on a very sharp high ANSI CR PJ.
