ahh didn't think of that... Explains why they have some 10 different sets of tubes...

Yep... Those are flight sim tubes. You can even see in the increased wear of the horizon (from atmosphere effects) in the tube with the trapezoid pattern.

There are lots of military flight sims done just like that - F15, F16, F18, A10... They're all very similar to the F/A-18 Hornet sim above.

Did you guys know that in the GM simulator, they have a button when they have a problem with it. I always answer:

' This is OnStar support, you have a problem with projector # 3, the HV quadrupler has put the set in shutdown mode'

Oh, that's funny, Curt... That would ROCK, wouldn't it? Full remote diagnosis? I can hear it, now... "Wow, your machine isn't level, and your convergence sucks, too! Oh, and back off on the zone convergence in the corners... You need to work on your keystone some more." Wink

Here's a photo of a pilot sitting inside a L-3 Link A-10 Full Mission Trainer. The reason I posted that pic is two-fold. First, an interesting thing... See the green overlay "HUD" in front of the pilot in the windshield? That's a crummy little digital LCD projector making that HUD display... It's just overlaid on the environment images from the CRT's. Last time I was in one of these things, it was running 3 or 4 909's. Drool.

Air National Guard A-10 units all over the country have these. The cool thing is, even if a particular unit only has one sim, they can connect over a secure network and fly all sorts or remotely coordinated CAS (close air support), air interdiction, etc. missions. So, a guy in Connecticut and a guy in Battle Creek can be sitting in their A-10 sims flying a CAS mission together. Two more guys at ANG units in different cities can be flying their F-16 sims. Then, some guys here in Iowa run the exercise, and simulate red aircraft, friendly ground units, unfriendly ground forces, airborne command and control (AWACS).

So, they all fly together, in the same "battle space" all on the "radio" together (it's all IP, but simulated to work like real radios), and they fly simulated real-life missions. So, a simulated guy on the ground calls in an air strike on some bad guys, the A-10's go in and drop bombs and unload their cannons (all coordinated by the guy on the ground - a FAC - forward air controller), and the F-16's do air intercept, all the while talking to the AWACS for radar updates.

It's so freakin' cool. I produced a video for our guard unit here that I should post. It was all shot in HD and looked really sweet, then got totally destroyed in de-classification.

You know those aren't blends, right Gary? They're facets of an RP setup. Believe me when I say they that A) they look better sitting in the cockpit, and B) you don't care about a few seams when you're flying an A-10 blowing stuff up. Wink

Yeah, I figured the walls might have sharp corners in them. Still, the brightness matching is really poor. I would think that would really break the "suspension of disbelief" you want in a simulator. But I suppose you're right, if you're blowing stuff up (or trying to avoid being blown up!) it's probably not high on your list of worries. Smile

I think the brightness uniformity always looks worse in photos, too. I've noticed that in some of my own screen shots. Not sure why that happens. I assume the camera captures something we're just not as sensitive to.

Teleoperator was used it in controll room.
