Have you tried SD on the Vizio? I would like to have seen them plug the Vizio into a Blu Ray player to see what it looked like.
On the number of TVs bought, I think I only have bought three if you don't count the three Monovisions I got of the gov. I don't count the Monos, because I bought them to get some neighbors and friends into HD on the cheap. I think I bought a 20" Sharp in the early 90s. I then moved to a 31" Panny in 95. My last tv was a Proscan 36" monitor that my father still uses (and loves). From there I went to projectors.

Was that the fat azzed 36" curved tube Proscan with the 1024x768 VGA input? The TV did 1080i? c. 1999 ( ish )

Yes, it was the MM. I didn't know it 1024x768. I thought it maxed out at 800x600. To me, the curved screen was a bonus as I preferred it to the flat screens.

Funny, but that's all in been watching (2 weeks) is SD from a Dish DVR. And it still looks pretty darn good. Going to move the PS3 to this set and get the HD Dish DVR next week.
The longest lasting TV we had was a Sony XBR. That bad boy lastest 19 years! Before that was a GTE Sylvania 13" color. Lastest 24 years.
The next Vizio is nice, but I am not expecting it to last any where near the time of the CRTs!

Fear not my fellow friends. The age of long lasting tv's have come to an end. Once you have switched to digitals you will be buying lots of tv's over the next time frame of your life...

I know, I know, but not much else I can do. We have limited space for a TV, and as much as I would like to have a decent RPTV, there just isn't the room.

Seen as though I started this thread, I thought I should reply with what I actually settled on for the living room.
I still like the idea of LED but it's to expensive for me to consider as a display for the kids to do mostly gaming on.
BB had a sale on LG LCD's, that and along with a 10% off coupon that was good for 24 hours only saved me a ton of money on both the flat screen and a 400 disc BD changer. I ended up with a 42 inch LG.
My favorite LED of the same size was about $500.00 more. Another biggie in my decision was the face of the display.
Due to the proposed location, a glossy front would have reflected to much back at the seating area. A matt face was really required.
Now when the "best friggin CRT projector in the world" finally dies I will go for a back lit LED to replace it. The man cave has no external light to reflect back onto it.

I totalled up how much I've spent on every CRT projector I ever bought and it was about half of the $4,000 retail price of one Samsung's top of the line LCD LED panels with local dimming. Of course, I did not add up all the time I spent setting them up and tweaking them...

The 4600HD has BF'n new tubes in it (two months old). So when the time comes, final decision on replacement will come then. Hopefully with the availability of HD in the living room, I won't be racking up so many hrs on the projector.
I piss through tubes like candy but this is absolutly the last re-tube.

LCD LED prices are in the 4 digit range where LED DLP is in the 5 digit range. Very big difference. But if a min image size is required then there may not be a choice.

But that is still a cost issue. I have seen the LED at VCD in operation.

I was not including bulb technology at all in my comment. It was specifically about LED technology. 
LCD LED has established a price in the consumer market and probably will decrease in price over time.
LED DLP front projection has not established a consumer market yield yet and the prices are high and may not decrease for some time if at all.
LED DLP RP has an affordable price range but seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs because of flat panel desire.
So the only need for a LED DLP FP would be if the available size of an LED LCD flatpanel was not large enough for the buyer and the price variance was not a concern.
My impression of the LED projector at VDC would probably be biased based on the price. But blocking that from my mind I still probably could not give a good opinion since we only looked at still and motion orientated test patterns. Didnt look at any video and now wish we did. Did think about it at the time.
Besides, As I have said here before. I am not a very picky person when it comes to watching TV. I dont sit there trying to pick out problems with the picture. I like to sit and enjoy the show. Unless it was something blatantly obvious.
Which is why I also dont get involved in testing products on here. I'm not that picky, lol.
If its focused, converged, black is black and white is white and flesh tones look like flesh........ I'm happy.

Well, there's the LG HS200, and the about to ship LG HX300, the former retails just below $500,-. These offer 200 and 300 lumens, so CRT territority, and focus to 80" and 100" diagonal screen, respectively. These have great color, and not too bad contrast. SVGA and XGA is still acceptable for (SD) TV reproduction too many.
According to the first review from Asia the Samsung SPF10 XGA LED projector is considerably brighter, and brighter than the higher-end PT-120 LED machines, but contrast isn't too good. It does offer upto 823 ANSI Lumens though. So LED FP is around at mass market prices.
