I have a bunch of video and as always hand held video is shaky.

Is there a free software program to fix the 'shakes' in a video. Even a free demo would do.

Video capture that wasn't stabilized to begin with seems like it would result in lost picture content. I only say this because any post-production technique would seek to find those pixels that are always in the re-capture area for a sustained period of time, and creating a virtual stable area, which most likely would be an area smaller than the original capture area.

But I know nothing, thankfully. Smile

Yes, Wan - Anything but in-camera optical image stabilization will result in resolution loss. But, if the camera is shaking anyway, are you really worried about some resolution loss? Personally, I'd rather have less shake, and tolerate some resolution loss. If you are going to do it in post, it's best to use software that lets you adjust the amount of stabilization, so you can pick the best trade off between stabilized and non-stabilized. Sometimes, the extra-stabilized footage of really shaky footage just looks bizarre because it doesn't shake, but instead just gets blurry, and "weird".

Anyway, a bunch of editors in this comparison table have image stabilization...

This is yet another perfect example of a piece software that comes completely free with a new Mac, but that costs $75-100 for something comparable on a PC... But, hey - nobody ever really needs that stuff, so there's no reason to pay extra for it. Wink

I'll check this out tonight. I have a wikedly shaky video, show with the new camera in 720p while strapped to the head rest of the car.

I also have a video shot in SD Hi8 from a heaving boat on the Atlantic while whale watching. I can't even watch that on the big screen.
