Ya, I know, just a tad off topic. I bought something on line on Oct. 15 that I needed in in two weeks. I didn't think Priority shipping was needed. BIG MISTAKE. It took 4 days to get from Iowa to New Jersey. There it sits in a trailer until there's a full load at which time it will go to Springfield MA. to be put on another trailer. When that one is full, it will go to Boston and then to me. That is bull**** and so am I. Sorry for the rant but I just had to vent. I think I was qouted 9-11 days. It's now 15 days and it's still in Jersey Rolling Eyes

For small items I use USPS priority because they usually get smaller packages. With UPS you have a lot of heavy items trying to occupy the same space as smaller items ..... Shocked

USPS kicks serious butt over Canada Post. Strange that you've had issues, with the 100s of packages I send via USPS, they've lost one, and have never been late at delivering anything.

I've been pretty happy with stuff I've had sent here via USPS.

And Aussie Post is blindingly fast. Melbourne local in less than a day, on occasion, and Syd to Melb in 2 days.

It's couriers that have lost my stuff in the past...grrrr.

I agree with Curt, Canada post blows in comparison to USPS. I think both systems need to modernize, there does seem to be a lot of lag time that could be cut out.

I would have to agree USPS does a pretty good job even with heavy items which really suprised me but they managed to ship a set of lenses from the US to Australia without even damaging the box and all three lenses were in one box. On the other hand UPS looked like it had dragged a box containing two tubes all the way from the US now they suck.

I wanted something $1,000 check to go from Buford to Kennesaw, GA via overnight mail. Postal clerk insisted I send in Priority Mail and save the money. I told her I didn't care about the costs, but she insisted. Ok, enough arguing and I'm holding up the line (not really, the f-ing clerk is).

Ok, two weeks later nothing. No check received. I use FedEx and overnight a new check after I put a cancel-check process on it at my cost. Contractor got his new check within 24 hours. Oh, he did finally receive the Priority Mail shipped original check, but that was months later. He was kind enough to tear it up into small pieces and send it back to me regular mail, which took a day and a half.

USPS is one of the worse pseudo-union run companies on the planet. This is the same organization that continuously delivers someone else's mail to my box every week for the past nine years. The regular postal deliver person has even refused to take the incorrectly delivered mail form my box and deliver it to the correct address even though its 3 minutes in their future delivery route.

And yes, I have a couple of pieces of mail for two other addresses that were mis-delivered to me in the last two days. Someone's college fund and someone else's mortgage mail. Nice, huh? Maybe I should install a webcam on top of the mailbox, record the a-holes face, demonstrate the mis-delivered mail, and present to the world on the wonderful Internet.

I can't think of any problems I've had with USPS. In fact My mail is actually getting faster. I've been ordering things from Amazon [through the Blu-ray link Kal has set up] and have been getting them mailed standard mail, in about 4 days. It used to take more than a week all the time, sometimes I even get things the next day.

The keyboard I ordered was delivered in 1 day. When Nashou mailed me the Bellows for GOZER I received them in 1 day too.

O.K. I have received my neighbor's mail 3 times in 2 years, but he's right across the street from me less tan 200 feet so I don't mind walking it over there. Considering the amount of items handled by USPS I think they do a fine job.

I have a print-out from my own PO and it says "Estimated delivery date 10/22/09". Right now it's in a partial trailer, 4 states away. Rolling Eyes Never again unless it's priority shipping.

sounds like a local issue, maybe there's a shortage of Intelligent people where you live? (present company excluded of course) Laughing My mailman is very competent and helpful, recently retired after 30 years of public service.

I just received some DVD's I ordered on the 28th at 11 o'clock at night from Amazon. I don't think 3 days is bad at all .

Ya well you must have opted for the "Free two day shipping", which is priority or better. That would not happen with "economy shipping".

No I didn't. The order was from 3 different places. The Amazon fufillment was sent in 3 days, the other 2 are still processing the order.

UPS managed to smash a XA-2 of mine, wrapped in six layers of bubble wrap. It was packaged so well, there wasn't a mark on the case, but three motherboard chips had their heatsinks ripped off. Two completely off and the third was swiveling around on it's last spring loaded post. That one managed to cut through some motherboard traces.

Then again, every other parcel (usually ground) has arrived in timely fashion.

Oh, I know this is a local issue. It doesn't help matters that here in Atlanta they have to have a million iterations of a base street name.

I looked on Google maps for streets with the word Ivy in it, with the same Buford, GA postal township and the same zip code. If I leave off the zip code the lists hit 1367 different iterations.

Use zip +4. More OCR friendly.

I had one bad instance in which I sent something and Priority Mail was forced upon me instead allowing me to use their overnight service. That may or may not have mattered if zip+4 was a considered factor.

But the above is mail coming to me, and I have zero control over businesses that choose to collect AND use information vs those that collect and do not use or do not collect at all.

My local address condition is when a carrier simply doesn't look at the address with 20/20 (or close to) vision. BTW, there are more than five Ivy instances in my small subdivision alone and which have all experienced mis-deliveries by the USPS. Somehow I doubt the zip+4 would have mattered.

Friday afternoon I was told that my shipment WAS in a trailer in Jersey. From there, when it was full, it would go to Springfield MA then to Boston and finally to me. Somehow, it turned up at my post office less than 12 hours later.
I think their tracking system needs some attention Rolling Eyes

so it only took 15 days, I don't know what your bitching about Laughing
Anything over 2.5 pounds go to kinko's copy-store and use fedex ground. 2 to 5 days anywhere in the lower 48, average is 3 and Saturday delivery is free (at least in my area)
