I prefer the image I see on a CRT, but have many times reminded folks that it doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference since a lot of the viewing amounts to little more than reruns of Laverne and Shirly. I have noticed the digitals have gotten better as time goes by, and I suspect that one day I too will take that path. I actually like the image on a properly calibrated JVC LCOS machine now. The truth be known, my hesitance about digital stems from the crap that HDCP introduced, and not with the technology itself. I just hate all the drop outs when switching resolutions or sources.
My friend only cares that when he invites a crowd over for game day, that his PJ won't shut down in the middle of the game (again). I can hardly argue against the merits of a newer and less problem prone system. I will nevertheless try to fix his Marquee, since I believe it to be the best option for him at this time. It's a low hour machine, and an Ultra chassis, and it's been calibrated, and it looks great when it runs. If not, then at least I will have more spare parts to keep mine alive a bit longer, and I am satisfied there are some new digitals on the market that would serve him well.

Well, it's not the LVPS or the CLM. I checked the original P14 and it was fine - so was the spare LVPS - and both fans run in both LVPSs. I downloaded the configs with the Librarian software ( glad I kept that old laptop with a serial port), installed a different CLM and reloaded. No joy. I 'm off to try the HDM and Focus boards. If it's not either of these, then it can only be the HVPS or the HV splitter, as I will have swapped every other board out except the MB. Finger crossing time....

DUDE, your friend has DLP almost Tattoed on his forehead. Pat do yuorself a favor and get him digitized. I bet if you asked him whether he'd like to watch foot-a- ball with the lights on he'd say HELL YEAH

Still no joy. That leaves only the HV splitter and the HVPS. Gee....I wonder which one it the culprit?????
I'm letting the HV self discharge overnight and swapping the splitter tomorrow.
Anybody have a HVPS they want to sell? 39.5kV preferred, 39.0 kV acceptable. No 40.0kV, however.

What? Are you saying you haven't heard of the tried and true method of "finger discharging?"
It's much faster...

I once leaned into a loose spark plug wire cable and got it in the....belly button. That works too.

I guess you should be very glad you aren't taller.
At my high school in the 60s, it was popular for guys to shake hands in greeting. There was an auto shop teacher that would stand next to his running car and shake your hand while holding a spark plug lead. It would knock the stew out of us, but it never seemed to bother him. Even farther back was a trick using a cigar box, a battery, and a model T coil. Opening the box lid opened the circuit, discharged the coil, and you were holding the discharge path. Yippee!

We use to charge a condenser capacitor off of a points ignition and say "Catch!" most of the guys would go for it.
One of the mechanics at a local dealership did the spark plug wire trick to a customer. He thought it would be funny. Not so when the old mans pace maker stopped

Add one HVPS, stir, and cover with Cramp Easy Lube. Set aside to dry....
Dead HVPS, just like I feared, but Santa delivered and installed one just in time for Christmas, and a good time was had by all.
