|
|
I recently checked out a website that claims to REBUILD ANY CRT IN France. The company is called RACS. They can be found w/ search tube, cathode.
This would be great for any oddball CRT PJ where spare or NEW CRT replacements can't be found.
Their web site shows antique and unique tubes displayed. They truly appear clever and knowlwdgable to do any task.
Will give them some future projects.

That's interesting, do you have any idea how much they charge ?
Of course nowadays, shipping from North America to France and back would even be too much, let alone paying for the actual rebuilding...

You know, I think CURT PALME would be the first place you would think of to send your P/J.

Never mind. I thought you were saying the whole P/J was going to be rebuilt, not just the CRT tube.

For us in Europe it may actually be a solution. Unfortunately my French is not that good...

shipping might be made reasonable IF there is an economy shipping solution which is slower in transit. Does Curt rebuild CRTs? Is he busy doing this? Someone gonna need tubes rebuilt.
he has all equipment from VDC?
The French seem very comprehensive and knowledgable on many types of tubes. It would seem worth while to have them look at a specialized tube not available. If I have any luck will do posts.
The guy at novatron didn't seem too enthusiastic about rebuilding CRTs , which is there business. maybe he was waiting to retire?

Hey I'm English and I'm still struggling to get english correct.
I'm based in the UK and have sent them an email in my best school boy French to see what they can do with the usual P16 and P19 tubes

JohnHWman is French, isn't he? And there must be other French native speakers around on this forum.

Don't forget Kal and the other Ottawa boy's. Many Ottawa people speak french since they are just a stone's throw away from Quebec.

I wonder what phosphors they can get / use. If the tube is rebuilt, it is important that the phosphor for THAT color be able to produce RGB at Rec 701 or close to it. Or if the tube is color filtered it must make Rec 701 in combination with the filter

...because on an antique rebuild it doesn't really matter if the phosphor color is all that good. But for us it makes ALL the difference.

yep, 12 years in the west end.
the year we arrived (1970ish from T.O.) the winter was so bad that the Ottawa Citizen put "survivor certificates" in the paper.
Ottawa is the only place i've lived where fence posts had to go down 6 feet for the frost line.
it's the only place where i've had to shovel the snow banks on the hill back into the middle of the lawn so that i could shovel more from the driveway onto the lawn.
it was too cold for my swedish car.
the plumbing vent on the roof would ice over causing the sinks to gurgle when you flushed.
the tires on my dad's car froze to the driveway. and after you broke free, you drove with ka-CHUNK, ka-CHUNK until they thawed.
but Ottawa has the single best summers on the planet. man i liked those. festivals, biking out to lie on the beach all saturday afternoon. phoning the pub to "start pouring three slow guinness" and then break-neck cycling down the parkway with 2 friends to "race the pour".
good times.

Ok here is an e-mail respoce I sent them some info but i dont have the exact phosphor colors needed, any one know what the exact phosphor numbers or part numbers are?
Good day Athanasios,
Let me introduce myself, i am Jerome Halphen, Paris, France. I work as a
free translator/Consultant for RACS, dealing with foreign, non-French
speaking customers such as yourself.
To answer your inquiry, we need more data:
- what is the precise reference of the CRT you want rebuilt?
- Screen diameter?
- Length?
- Manufacturer?
- B&W or color?
- recent or vintage?
> How much to re build a LCP or LUG type tube?
References unfamiliar, please see above questions.
> And what is actually changed for the rebuild?
If B&W, the CRT is washed/cleaned back to clear glass.
Then:
- New screen, P4 white phosphor
- if vintage CRT, any B&W color temperature at no extra cost
- New graphiting
- New aluminization, if EHT under 8KV, none (would be too dim)
- Gun rebuild: New filament, new cathode
- Vacuum processing
- Getter Flashing
- You pay only when rebuild confirmed successful, i.e. producing a
satisfactory raster in post-processing quality control
- 24h burn-in test
- 1 year warranty on rebuilt tube
If Color CRT:
- Gun rebuild only
- Screen remains original
> With Shipping to and from the USA?
Shipping costs vary according to screen size length. As a guideline, if
the CRT will fit in a box less than 2 meters, combined
Height/Width/Length added together, and under 30.00Kg weight, the USPS
can ship for a relatively low cost. If above 2 meters/30 kg, you need a
quote from a shipping co. such as Craters & Freighters, etc.
If your CRT is 9 inches or smaller, the standard quote includes return
shipping to the customer's US address.
I sincerely hope these first answers will encourage you to tell us more
about your specific needs,
In the meantime,
Best Regards
Nashou
