|
|
I got the new HD 5750 for my HTPC yesterday, and played a little around with the new settings on the card. And I must say that I have never before had a image that looked so good on my CRT's. (9500LC Ultra)
My problem have always been getting the details to stand out, without sacrificing the black level, but now I can with the video gamma adjustment.
One thing though I wondered about, was that I was not able to see the below black stripe in the PLUGE setup? I had no problem seeing it on my old 4850 card.
Morten.

Thor, are the gamma adjustments different than previous versions? I remember in the catalyst panel you can move a curve, but it doesn't allow individual point adjustment. Or low end boost only, etc.
Thanks!

I have never before been able to adjust gamma on the video with ccc, only on the desktop, but that didn't affect the video?
This is a normal slider where you can set it from 0.5 to 3.5 in 0.5 steps.

It is 9.10, only released for the 58xx/57xx series yet.

Just curious if there is some option to choose between full computer output or video level output for the card ? And maybe its on video output and thus won't show below black ? Just a stab ....

I'm using TMT3.
I got it to show the black stripe by working with the video brightness. It seems that the output from this card i somewhat darker than my 4850 was. Maybe it's because of the dedicated 1.3 HDMI output?
I can change the output between 4:4:4 YCrCb and full RGB. And to be honest I'm a little confused what is best? I have heard that full RGB gives most colors, but the videosignal from Blu-ray/DVD is encoded in the YCrCb domain, and that converting it to full RGB should actually degrade the image a little??

It has to be converted to RGB somewhere, either in the PC or the HDMI card.
Test it and see.
I wonder if the new gamma control will work on all AMD/ATi cards? Might be worth getting TMT working - it won't run on my system, piece of crap.

Yeah...TMT doesn't like film rates...Except for maybe 24p...When I tried it at 72Hz it was really screwed.

I didn't have any issues with TMT running 96i.
My issue now is I can't get it to run at all since rebuilding my PC. I think it needs the Xonar HDMI "Splendid" part of the drivers...I don't want to install that piece of bloatware crap as I use analogue out.

"Splendid".....WTF?...Marketing...Arg!...Going OT here...is the Xonar Deluxe worth it?...A distributor I buy from is offering seed units for a decent price....I'm tempted to try the direct to power amp audio like you all I use that htpc for is Movies and some HD-TV shows.

No, the drivers are sh*t. Woeful. Worse than crap.
There's a HT Omega Claro card that might have better drivers.

Thor,
How do you get component (YCrCb) out of 5750? I just got a 5770 which includes a DVI-I/VGA adapter and I haven't tested it yet, but I assume it only outputs RGB. I don't see any settings in the latest Catalyst GUI to choose between component and RGB. Did I miss it?
Thanks,
Don

The YCrCb is through the DVD/HDMI output, up to my Moome HDMI card, not analog. I can't remember exactly where in Catalyst you set it, and I think it is different from monitor to monitor, weather it is shown in the GUI or not.

Thor,
Thanks, my mistake. I misread your original post and thought you were somehow getting analog component (YPrPb) out of the card. My goal is to feed the PC/Radeon 5770 into a component input of my whole-house video matrix switch, a Russound VM-1. I suppose I could use the card's HDMI out through a HDFury2 or 3 to achieve this, but then I'm not sure if overscan (e.g., missing Windows task bar) would become an issue. I'd rather not have to mess with software such as PowerStrip if it can be avoided.
Thanks,
Don

We should say a big thanks to my buddy CS at AMD who made this happen, also with the help of all you guys and the folks on AVS. I spent some time last year writing a short Requirement Spec after getting feedback and reviewing all the problems the CRT community had with Gamma. I sent the doc to CS and AMD used it it putting this feature out!
They are a great company, and read this forum and others and value what we say. ATI got my vote

Does custom resolutions work with a 5xxx card?
I read on the Powerstrip forum that it's not working as ATi hasn't released the info that Entech need.
Without a custom res capability I cannot buy a 5xxx, and I want a 5750, I'll have to go Nvidia.
Oh, and the gamma thing no workee with my 2600XT card.

Timings solution: http://gamers-underground.com/tech-chat/32178-how-set-custom-resolutions-radeon-5xxx.html
Also the Gamma only works on the new 5xxx cards.
