Wow, talk about depreciation. It's a nice set, at least the one that I saw at Cliff's. Some convergence and corner brightness issues, the 1209s will smoke it still, but for $600, it's a good deal... if it's the bulb only. Why someone would sell it cheap at this point is beyond me.

That's a very good price for an RS1....if it works A new lamp will cost ~$350.
I'd say go for it.
Chris.

The guy is being a little flakey. Avoiding questions about when the bulb went out, what happened.

There ya go. Shipping it from Africa, but he'll cover shipping in the $600.
If you get it, post here, tell me your address, we'll go meet for lunch somewhere, but tragically I'll get 'held up' in traffic...

It's either stolen or damaged further than he wants to admit. Tempting but probably a bad idea.

On CL, with the exception of CRT deals, if it is too good to be true then it probably is. I would be very tempted for an RS1 at that price but I would not do deal if my instincts said otherwise.

Wow interesting makes you hesitant as to what the "dead" bulb excuse might be covering up.

Exactly...Might be $600 boat anchor, and not a very good one at that.

If the unit needs repair....JVC is local in So.Cal...I took my projector there personally when it needed a check up.

No offense, Mike but that is just one pj. The bigger problem is that he put it in storage in South Florida. The climate down there can destroy a lot of things just ask Techman. Hell, I read that presbyopia happens quicker in that environment. Anyway, I don't think he opened the pj. It could have been as simple as an insect in the pj.
Sec,
I find CL to be even worse with CRTs. There is a guy in Atlanta that just posted his poor 1272 tubes for $100 a pop or best offer. I think some guys see that they're not moving on ebay, so they figure it might be easier to sell on CL.

Oh, I forgot to add that I would check the JVC out. Supposedly the JVCs are holding up pretty good. I had a line on a cheap Pearl, but Darin mentioned that problems have surfaced. I may still check it out, but I will probably pass.

Yeah overpriced c--p for CRTs is a problem on CL but there are also bargains in the CRT land that are less likely to be out right scams. I know several people, myself included who have done very well on CL CRT projector wise. But you are right lots of people have inflated value of their junk on CL.

Yeah I saw something on the digital forums over at AVS that said the Sony SXRD projector panels were possibly degrading and causing the contrast ratio to drop overtime or something?

What is the difference between this and the AE3000? I would opt for the AE3000 for about 300 cheaper.

A higher CR rating, I think the AE3000 is 60000:1...I would sure like to see an A/B comparison....The 4000 has few more bells and whistles on the CIH side and something about the bulb doesn't lose red as fast as the 3000.

Mike, you buying into that marketing, are you? Why not allow them to publish and you to buy into 1,000,000:1 contrast since you don't have the means to prove them wrong (ahem, liars)?

Oh...I agree...I said in my original post the CR is overstated...It seems like PJ companies are claiming wild CR ratings...The red bulb thingy could have some value.
Epson just released one with a 200000:1. It really all depends on how well the dynamic iris is implemented, and if it's noticeable when your watching a movie.
