I usually leave my bg808s in standby mode so I can power it on with my crestron.

This morning I powered it on like usually with the crestron, the fans came on, but no picture. I heard a rhythmic sparking sound every second. Sounded like... speoh, speoh, speoh... It's ceiling mounted and with the lights off I could see a flash of light at the left rear through the grille that coincided with the noise. The standby button didn't turn it off at that time.

So, I pulled the plug, waited until the rear power LED turned off fully, then plugged it back in and all is well. This has happened one other time in the few weeks that I've had this unit. Anything I should look for?

According to the info on Curts site I would say it was near the AC input board, or the power supply. I didn't open it to look closer and was worried some damage would occur if I let it continue doing that.

Thanks!

Dale

If hte set is pulsing, then you have a short somewhere, loading the power supply down. Or, a fuse on the SMPS could be open.

Open the cover, and see if the row of green lights on the G2 board are pulsing. If so, check all the power supply fuses as per the tech tips section on the main site.

Thanks Curt, this gives me a place to start. I might have a spare smps from a bg808, I wonder if it's the same as the 808s?
