OK.
I have two Marquees.

Marquee 1:
Marquee 8000
7140h runtime
G2: R62 G67 B64
Drive: R7 G76 B48
Brightness: 41
Contrast: 37
Rating: R9 G8,5 B8,5 Wear is 5mm/0.2inch away from the edge an not Visible in the projection.
Colored Glykol

Color Calibrated with HCFR and SpyderII
I must defocus Blue a little bit to become the hump away in the IREīs around 40-70

Marquee 2:
Marquee 8500
1200h runntime
G2: R65 G71 B69
Drive: R22 G90 B36
Brightness: 71
Contrast: 48
Rating: R9 G7,5 B9 Wear is 2,5cm/1inch away from the edge with a visible Burn of some Icons.
Colored Glykol

Color Calibrated with HCFR and SpyderII
Blue is sharp with no hump. Perfect.

so...one of this two CRTīs goes to a member of my family. The better one will stay by me.
OK. The 8500 is a little bit brighter and sharper. The saturated colors are even better at the D64 reference.
But the Tubes G2 Levels are higher...hmmm.

I could change only the old green Tube from 8000 to the 8500. What do you think about it? I think the better sharpness comes from the electronics and not from the newer tubes.

I would try it and see, it shouldn't take that long to do the swap.

yes, The better tracking is from the electronics, they added blue gamma tracking in 95. swap any and all tubes, it's easy and quick, just watch that white G2 wire. Then give the 8000 away, there's nothing there really worth saving.

I have changed the green Tube an test it. Result: The green Tube has not enough peak Brightness and is less sharp then the one from the 8500. No way to become good results in range of IRE 50-80.

I think i donīt change the Tubes. Holding the 8500 and looking for an new green Tube is the right way.

they're the same tubes, 180DMB22. The're should not be a big difference in focus unless it's a really old 8000 with the older yokes (coils). Don't forget to adjust inidvidual tube RGB focus in the service menu after a tube swap. Also, don't swap neck-cards, the older ones are not nearly as good.
Don't foget to consider both on time and stand-by. the tubes are fully powered up in standby which is simply video mute on a Marquee. the EM focus tubes don't lose much focus ability over their life span but at 10K or more it will start to drop a little.
A new green tube of course is best, $600. from VDC florida but new old stock does pop up occasionally.

of course i have used the never VNBīs to test. I have even done a 2pol Astig adjustment and RGB Focus. The G2 Level of green is the same like in the 8000. But the Peak Brightness is less then the other.
Brightness and Focus IS not as good as by the "newer" green tube.
Now i have rebuild this tube and make a new adjust of the Frankenyoke, 2pol, Focus and so on.... The difference in sharpness is now extrem. I think 100% vs 70% sharpness.

I can not imagine that I have made an mistake in adjust the Tubes...iīm not an Beginner.

that's a mystery? Peak brightness though is not G2, G2 is low cut-off. Peak output is Drive setting, on a Marquee Green drive should be at 90 which is where you have it.
Only thing I can guess is cathode on 8000 tube is worn, bummer Sad Look for a new tube, last one here in FS area sold for $300.

G2 level is realy ok...Thats not a Problem. Drive R0 G100 B15 and there is even not enough green in the Projektion.
I can calibrate the lower IREīs to 6500k. At the higher End there is no way to become 6500k. Green Peak is not so strong as the other Tubes. I think also that the cathode is consumed.

I will keep the M8500 and look for a green tube. In Germany we would say: Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt. (The hope dies last) Rolling Eyes

I have nothing to add other than to mention that I love your avatar!
You most definitely know a thing or two about photography, photoshop, art, and composition! Nice work!

EDIT: Yup. I looked at some of the art on your website gallery (http://www.2lss.de/2dcafe/gallery/). You've got talent my friend!
