|
|
I found the 4,000 hr G90 in New Jersey and had it shipped to me in TN. It arrived safely yesterday. Of course I was hoping for the best. The case is in near mint condition. However the green & blue tubes will have to be replaced due to improper setup. Fortunately I got the projector at a good enough price I won't have "too much" in it after replaing the tubes.
The projector came out of a home theater were it was originally installed about 10 years ago. I find it amazing someone would purchase a $43,000 projector but not have it setup properly.

Wow, another G90 owner! Congrats!
After seeing Art's and Cliffy's stacks, I can tell you you're going to be thrilled going from a G70.
New green, tube... STAT!

I have to agree! The problem is, the customer was not properly advised on the importance of getting it set up by someone who knew what they were doing. Or the company that sold it to him ACTUALLY did do the set up and it's obvious that they had no idea what they were doing. Provided that there weren't any mounting distance constraints due to the room layout, these people weren't even aware of PJ Calc!!!! Totally incompetent and a dis-service to the HT community......what a shame. If you are going to order a tube or two, I would advise you to do so through Greg Eisemann. He has the best grade tubes at the best pricing available.
Congrats on the G90!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

I see where Greg Eisemann has P19LUG HR (High Resolution?) tubes. How does one contact Greg? I read a post recently about someone getting a tube from Tubular Outlet. If I remember correctly, the phosphor started delaminating and they blamed it on the projector. Fortunately he had a lot of forum support and I think he was able to get a replacement from Tubular.

Why not check with our gracious host Curt?? He may have an original tube.

I wish, as I have two G90s here that need them. FRom what I've read, deal with Greg. Look him up over on the avsforum, he's not a member here.
Note that I have not used his tubes personally, but have read about 2-3 people that have, with good results.

What is wrong with the setup? It looks ok to me........
If you don't think there is enough raster usage, you'll quickly find out if you go any further, your corner focus will suffer. If I remember correctly, that is about the raster usage I currently have.

Just got of the phone with Craig at CIR Engineering. We worked out a deal for a green & blue tube along with a new DALLAS chip.

Another problem however is that if you look at the raster pattern you can see a 4x3 inside the 16x9. That is going to show horrible burn in for 4x3 when watching 16x9.
A tip for getting better raster usage on a G90 is to tip up the back of the projector a little. I usually tip the back up about 1.5" ~ 2.0" and this makes for less keystone correction so you get more of a square raster. That way more phosphor gets used and you will also find that the corners on the short side will come out sharper

Happy to help
I was thinking about keeping those two tubes for future use in my own G90, but I really need the money NOW with getting married and everything

I did this with my 1209s. Being ceiling mounted I actually tilted it down in back a little to get the tube faces closer to the same plane as the screen to minimize the keystone.

Cliff when you say the corner focus will suffer are you talking about the lenses or CRTs ?

This is a question I had confronted with my BG1208 when I installed HD-145s. I maxed the raster with the lenses off, then I had to make the raster smaller to fit within the range of the lense(s).

How much closer did you adjust the throw difference ? In my case it was about 11 inches. I maxed out my 808 raster without problem.

How come the green doesn't have a (lightly) filtered C-element?

Does it just look green and the photo didn't get it?
I'll let you know when I get the cores from betel what it looks like compared to the normal Sony style.

I wish I could do that with my Blend set up but if i do then the image will be in a spot where my last row will have both PJ's in the image on the top. Bad thing about having the PJ's closer to the screen. Right now I have a 16x9 screen so its nice that i can move the image and PJ's around till I find the spot where the back row still gets an unobstructed view. man if I had extra cash Id have Craig get his ass over here to help me, setting up a blend as a one man show is a Bitch!!!
