I hijacked the LG390 thread enough I figured I would start a new one.

Switched to the Samsung 3600 from my PS3 and haven't been happier. Actually just getting the PS3 out of my theater overjoyed me almost to tears. I had it with Bluetooth down there.

I feel like I rediscovered my Harmony 1000. So nice to have it control during a movie. Thumbs Up

Fast load times...

Power to eject = <2 seconds every time
Drawer Close to Warning screen = 8 sec to 10 sec
Power to Off during movie = 7 sec to 10 sec

Features:

7.1 Analog Outs with onboard HD audio decoding

Profile 2.0 with onboard storage and all that crap

Included wireless dongle (B/G/N)

Online Features - Netflix HD, Blockbuster (not set up yet), Pandora, Youtube

USB playback - 1080p MKV confirmed, WMA, MP3 audio

So far impressions:

Very fast load times. Network setup was a breeze for both wired and wireless. Flawless integration into universal remotes with no extra parts. Netflix HD for "The Office" seems as good as TV. Pandora sounds great and loads super fast. Playing 1080p BR rips is a great treat and I will eventually get a 2 TB drive down there for that. The only thing better would be to get that to work over the ethernet connection. Blockbuster isn't setup yet but the logo and login is there from firmware 2.02. It looks just like a placeholder.

I am using the 7.1 analog outputs into my H/K 325 and the sound is great. I haven't spent enough time to notice the major improvement between DTS and DTS HD MA but it sounds great so I am not complaining.

I am going to give it a few more weeks before I put in my final verdict but so far it has been a heck of an improvement in my theater...if for no other reason that I only need one remote now.

Greg, sounds nice. I'll be curious to see what the real times are. Does the YouTube player support YouTube HQ or HD videos? 1080p mkv would be nice. The rest I don't care that much about.

Man, sounds looks like a nice player... I just wish all these less-expensive players weren't so damn plasticy. I know a Denon or Marantz in a super-swanky metal case would be $500-700, but that's because it's Denon or Marantz. A frickin' tin case and a brushed aluminum faceplate can't cost THAT much. It just seems like Samsung could put something like a BDP-3600 in a nice metal case with a nice metal face plate and sell it for $50 more... I'd pay that to have something a little more solid and that I could possibly stack stuff on in my rack.

I am more curious as to the reliability of Samsung players these days. My one experience led to taking the thing back four months after purchase (Costco).

I guess you should bring this thread back up in 6 months and ask again...but the thread over at AVS has been going for about a year and no major complaints over there about reliability.

I don't assume any electronic device to be more reliable than the next. You will get some lemons (LG390) and some that will last years (HK 325). It is what it is.
